Chelsea submit £45m bid for perfect Mason Mount alternative as Todd Boehly transfer rejected

Everton boss Frank Lampard has already explained why Chelsea are so eager to complete the signing of Anthony Gordon. The 21-year-old winger has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in the latter stages of the summer as Thomas Tuchel looks to further bolster his squad.

football.london understand that the west Londoners are in talks with the Toffees to sign Gordon. It's said that Chelsea saw a bid in the region of £45million turned down by Everton, who are insistent that they will not entertain offers for the England youth international.

It's also understood that Gordon wants a move to the Blues before the transfer window slams shut at the start of next month. Though, it remains to be seen whether Chelsea will test the Merseyside club's resolve and table a newly-improved offer.

But if Todd Boehly needs a reason to prepare another bid, then Lampard has already explained why. Speaking to the Chronicle Live ahead of the west Londoners' clash with the Toffees in April, Chelsea's all-time top goalscorer likened Gordon to Mason Mount.

He said: "Anthony is a great kid and possesses one of the greatest young attitudes I’ve experienced in the game. We’re playing against him this weekend and he’s very similar to Mason Mount. Very similar in his attitude, application, his talent levels and he’s fine this week, he’s determined, that’s what he is."

Gordon, who sees his contract at Goodison Park expire in 2025, featured 35 times for Everton last season, directly contributing towards just six goals. The youngster played a key role in the Toffees evading relegation from the top-flight, attracting interest from several Premier League clubs.

As a signal of Everton's gratitude for his efforts, Gordon was granted the number ten. But, Lampard wants the winger to prove why he earned the iconic shirt despite rumours linking him with an exit.
