Chelsea stars pay tribute to Jamal Edwards after sudden death of SBTV founder

Chelsea have paid tribute to British music entrepreneur Jamal Edwards following the announcement of his death at the age of 31.

Edwards, a boyhood Chelsea fan, was the founder of SBTV, an online urban YouTube music platform that helped launch the careers of many artists such as Dave, Ed Sheeran, Jessie J and Skepta.

He is the son of Loose Women presenter Brenda Edwards, who said she was "completely devastated".

Following the tragic news, Chelsea paid tribute to the rap and grime icon on their social media channels.

The club wrote in a statement: "We're deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Jamal Edwards. An inspiration to many, we're honoured that he was part of our Chelsea family.

"Our thoughts are with everyone who knew and loved him."

Chelsea stars Reece James and Callum Hudson-Odoi also paid their respects on their own social media pages.

James wrote via Twitter: "Rest in peace Jamal Edwards I’m lost for words."

Hudson-Odoi posted in his Instagram story: "RIP JAMAL."

Edwards was a pioneer in both British rap and grime music. He was also an ambassador for the Prince's Trust, a youth charity run by the Prince of Wales which helps give young people the support needed to set up their own companies.

In a statement read out on ITV’s Good Morning Britain and shared on Loose Women’s Twitter account, Edwards' mum Brenda said: “It is with the deepest heartache that I confirm that my beautiful son Jamal Edwards passed away yesterday morning after a sudden illness.

“Myself, his sister Tanisha, and the rest of his family and friends are completely devastated. He was the centre of our world.

“As we come to terms with his passing, we asked for privacy to grieve this unimaginable loss. I would like to thank everyone for their messages of love and support.

“Jamal was an inspiration to myself and so many. Our love for him lives on, his legacy lives on. Long live Jamal Edwards MBE, MBA, PhD.”
