Chelsea star who loves Jurgen Klopp could play major role in Sadio Mane Liverpool transfer saga

Sadio Mane reportedly wants to leave Liverpool this summer with just 12 months remaining on his contract at Anfield. The Reds winger recently revealed that he would do what the Senegalese people want in regards to his future.

Mane said: "Like everyone else, I'm on social media and I see the comments. Isn't it between 60 to 70 per cent of Senegalese that want me to leave Liverpool? I will do what they want. We will see soon! Don't be in a hurry because we'll see this together."

Numerous recent reports have suggested Mane is nearing a move to Bayern Munich as he embarks on a new chapter in his career. Liverpool, however, are said to be on the hunt for a replacement before they sanction a move for Mane.

According to a recent report from the Daily Star, that's where Chelsea could enter proceedings. The news outlet is reporting that Liverpool are interested in signing Christian Pulisic to replace the outgoing Mane.

Jurgen Klopp and Pulisic crossed paths for three months during their time at Borussia Dortmund. The American winger never actually played under Klopp, who departed Signal Iduna Park in May 2015.

However, prior to Pulisic's £58million switch to Chelsea in 2019, Liverpool were apparently interested in signing the USA international. Klopp, though, was unable to assure Pulisic of a regular spot in the first-team.

Pulisic is clearly a big fan of Klopp, with his comments to the 13&Me podcast stating as much. He said: "I'm getting ready, going to training and it's just unreal. I was 16 or 17 and I'm going to warm up and there's huge names at the time.

"There's [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang, Marco Reus, Matts Hummels, [Henrikh] Mkhitaryan. All these guys and they were just in the Champions League final the year before.

"It's like I'm going in and I'm just this 16-year-old kid. I was thinking just do my best. I was just so excited and I'm just thankful to Jurgen Klopp that he gave me that opportunity. I'll take that with me forever and I'm really grateful."

Pulisic's situation at Chelsea

Pulisic recently said he was "excited" for Chelsea's new era under Todd Boehly, while also admitting he was frustrated with the lack of game time at Stamford Bridge last season. He said: "As far as right now, I'm obviously just focused on what I'm doing here [on international duty]. And I'm super excited to be here. And yeah, that's it.

"Of course, I want to get more playing time. I want to be on the field as much as I can and be the sharpest I can be and fit as well. I think I still got a lot of games. But it's always something that I'm working at and trying to be regular at club level as well to put myself in the best position to be fit when I come here with my national team."

Pulisic added: "At the end of the season, we were able to meet with them [Boehly and his consortium], and they were around the club a lot. They are really good people, so I am excited moving forward."

The lack of game time Pulisic was referring to under Thomas Tuchel saw the American winger start only 13 of Chelsea's 38 Premier League matches last term. The 23-year-old has struggled with consistency whenever he has been called upon, though, which will have been a big factor in Tuchel's thinking.

The USA winger is one of several Chelsea attacking players that could leave the club over the summer transfer window. Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Romelu Lukaku are all being linked with moves away from west London over the coming months after inconsistent seasons from the forwards.
