Chelsea star Mason Mount sends emotional World Cup message after England lose to France

Mason Mount has sent a message out after England crashed out of the Qatar World Cup following a 2-1 loss to reigning champions France. The Chelsea star was a second half substitute as soon as Olivier Giroud gave Les Bleus a late lead and won the second penalty for his side before Harry Kane smashed over from 12 yards.

The 23-year-old started the first two group games before being replaced against Wales by Jordan Henderson from the start. He didn't start against Senegal either as Gareth Southgate opted for control in midfield. This was Mount's first senior World Cup after playing in Holland with Vitesse Arnhem in 2018 as a teenager.

Mount has not had the best of seasons so far for Chelsea and has struggled to get going even under Graham Potter but he remains a key part of his domestic and international setup.

With five goals in 36 matches for his country, including a brilliant strike against Germany in the Nations League earlier this season, Mount is a consistent goal threat from deep or as a makeshift forward, but hasn't been able to hit top form this campaign.

He will now return to England where preparation has started for club football once more, with the Blues in action against Bournemouth on December 27.

Before that, Mount sent out a tweet, saying: "Waking up today, it still hurts just as much... the heart and determination of this team has been nothing short of inspiring, we wanted to go further, but it wasn’t to be."

Mount is sure to be among the group of young, talented players at England's disposal that will have another crack at the World Cup in 2026.
