Chelsea star Mason Mount sends defiant Instagram message after Liverpool defeat in Carabao Cup

Mason Mount has sent a defiant message after Chelsea were beaten by Liverpool in Sunday's Carabao Cup final by Liverpool at Wembley.

After an action-packed 120 minutes in which both sides saw goals ruled out, the game went to penalties with the score still 0-0.

Thomas Tuchel took the decision to bring Kepa Arrizabalaga on for Edouard Mendy before the shootout, with the Spaniard twice being a hero from the spot en route to the final.

But it was Liverpool who lifted the trophy with Kepa himself missing the crucial kick as the staggering finale finished 11-10 in favour of the Reds.

Unsurprisingly, there was plenty of talk of where things went wrong. Should Kepa have been brought on? Should Liverpool have been down to 10 men?

Mount himself came in for plenty of criticism too, missing two guilt-edged chances at Wembley, including a one-on-one that clipped the inside of the post.

But the midfielder, who was playing in his fifth final for the Blues in 12 months, sent a defiant message on Instagram after full-time.

"The season's far from over and there's a lot more to come," he wrote on his story alongside two photographs of himself competing at Wembley.

"Thank you to all the Blues for your support."

The chance to bounce back come almost immediately for Tuchel's side as they make the short trip north to face Luton Town in the FA Cup on Wednesday night.

Leicester triumphed over Chelsea in the final of that competition last season and they will be determined to go one step further this time around and end a run of five successive defeats in finals at Wembley.
