Chelsea have officially completed the signing of João Félix from Atlético Madrid on a permanent transfer. The London club confirmed the news on Wednesday, revealing that Félix has signed a six-year contract with the option to extend for a further 12 months.
The deal between Chelsea and Atlético Madrid is reported to be around €50 million ($55.4m), including add-ons. As part of the agreement, Atlético will retain a 20% share of any future transfer fee if Félix moves away from Chelsea.
This marks Félix's return to Chelsea after spending six months on loan at Stamford Bridge last season, where he scored four goals in 20 appearances. The forward expressed his excitement about rejoining the club, stating, 'I'm really happy to be back at Chelsea and I can't wait to get started. I loved my time here before and I'd love to return to the Premier League one day.'
Félix, who had a loan spell at Barcelona last season, scored 10 goals in 44 appearances for the Spanish club. Despite his desire to stay at Barcelona, he returned to Atlético after representing Portugal at Euro 2024.
The 24-year-old becomes Chelsea's 11th summer signing, joining the likes of Pedro Neto, Tosin Adarabioyo, and others. Félix, who began his career at Benfica, moved to Atlético in 2019 for a club-record fee but struggled to meet expectations under Diego Simeone's management, scoring 34 goals in 131 games for the Spanish side.
