Chelsea sign Jamaican striker Dujuan ‘Whisper’ Richards as transfer drive continues

Chelsea’s transfer spree has extended well beyond the January window after completing the signing of Dujuan ‘Whisper’ Richards.

The Phoenix All Stars Academy in Kingston, Jamaica announced on social media on Saturday evening that the teenage striker had agreed pre-contract terms with the Blues after carefully weighing up several options, with images and videos of him signing on the dotted line.

Richards - who scored 31 goals and notched 19 assists last season for his current side - had recently been on trial in Newcastle’s academy and attended their 1-1 Premier League draw at St James’ Park last month, per the Evening Chronicle.

However, he has now agreed to become the latest new recruit at Chelsea, who have evidently been suitably impressed with what they’ve seen from the 17-year-old.

Fans could catch a quick glimpse of Richards in action, having been called up to the senior Jamaica squad for the first time for a pair of friendlies against Trinidad and Tobago.

The first of those matches takes place in Montego Bay on Saturday night, with Richards joined in the Jamaica setup by fellow Chelsea youngster Omari Hutchinson.

“On behalf of the Phoenix All Stars Football Academy, I am proud to announce the signing of Dujuan “Whisper” Richards to Premier League giants Chelsea FC,” read a statement on Instagram.

“I am elated to be apart of history and to know that this is just the first step for Whisper as he’ll continue to develop and become the superstar he’s destined to be. Whisper I am proud of you. Heart and love every time.”
