Chelsea have successfully secured the services of Denmark under-21 goalkeeper Filip Jörgensen from LaLiga outfit Villarreal, as confirmed by the Premier League club on Tuesday. The 22-year-old shot-stopper, who emerged as Villarreal's first-choice goalkeeper last season, has inked a lucrative seven-year contract with Chelsea.
Although the exact transfer fee remains undisclosed, reports from British media outlets suggest that the deal is valued at approximately £20 million ($25.67m). Expressing his delight at the move, Jörgensen conveyed his excitement in an interview with the club's media team, stating, 'This move is a dream come true. I am very excited to have signed for Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world. I can't wait to get to know everyone and to start playing with all my new teammates.'
Originally born in Sweden to a Danish father and Swedish mother, Jörgensen initially represented Sweden at various youth levels before opting to switch allegiances to Denmark in May 2021.
