Chelsea set to offer Niklas Sule alternative more than Barcelona can as summer transfer eyed

Chelsea will be looking to strengthen at centre-back in the summer.

With Andreas Christensen, Cesar Azpilicueta and Antonio Rudiger's contracts all running out at the end of the season, the Blues could lose three of their prominent defensive figures for free by the time the summer window arrives.

The Blues have never been overly worried about spending money, and that doesn't appear to be an issue for the next window either. However, the problem is finding the right talent to replace players of that calibre.

They've already missed out on one of their reported targets in Niklas Sule, as the Bayern Munich centre-back has an agreement to join Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund in the summer.

football.london understood that Chelsea have held a long interest in the German star. He was scouted six years ago when Antonio Conte wanted to re-shape and re-structure the defence in west London but he preferred a move to Bayern at the time.

The Blues have missed out on signing him once again, but fortunately for supporters, it appears as though they're making strides to successfully rebuild their central defence.

According to Sport, via Sport Witness, Chelsea have ‘already made an approach’ for Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo.

The defender has a contract until June 2023, and renewal talks haven’t been going well, with Araujo’s representatives believing that Barca's current offers don't reflect the player’s status in the squad.

The report adds that the Blues have made it known they are willing to offer him more than double what is currently on the table from Barcelona.

If Chelsea can offer Araujo more than what Barcelona can as it's strongly suggested, the Uruguayan may be interested in moving to the Premier League. At 22, it will certainly be worth the investment.
