Chelsea set next manager appointment date as Todd Boehly looks for Graham Potter replacement

Chelsea are looking to complete a robust managerial search to get their next appointment right, but with some big ties on the horizon, a quick hire is also ideal. The Blues announced on Sunday that they had parted company with head coach Graham Potter following a 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa that saw the side drop into the bottom half.

The former Brighton man was in charge for seven months before leaving, with a mixture of challenges seeming too much in the end. Bruno Saltor has been given interim duties for now, with little time to spare for him to get used to the situation, with a clash against Liverpool next up on Tuesday evening.

"First of all it is a sad day," The ex-Seagulls captain said in his first press conference. "A sad day for staff because Graham [Potter] and Billy [Reid] leaving, two top coaches, top people, top human beings. How I see it is, I have to be the most professional I can. Try to help the players, guide the players to prepare the game the best we can."

At this stage, it remains unknown just how long the Spaniard will be in charge as the board and recruitment team plan their next steps. However, there are hopes that a quick appointment can be made to give the Blues the best chance they have for the rest of the season.

That's according to the Times, who claim that Todd Boehly and his peers are aiming to make a hire before the Champions League clashes with Real Madrid later this month. That gives the Blues just over a week to get the process finished, with the first tie at the Bernabeu coming next Wednesday.

While that's the ideal scenario, the report claims that there is a plan to use a robust process to reach the right decision, meaning an appointment may not be made by then if it isn't the right one. It remains to be seen who will be next in the hot seat, with Julian Nagelsmann, Mauricio Pochettino and Luis Enrique all linked with a switch.
