Chelsea send early team news hint for Wolves clash with Frank Lampard selection dilemma

Chelsea have given fans a small hint at who will be playing for them against Wolves at Molineux on Saturday. The Blues travel to the Midlands looking to respond after the sacking of Graham Potter and subsequent appointment of Frank Lamoard as interim boss.

Having been held 0-0 by Liverpool in midweek it is now three games without a win as they continue to languish in the bottom half of the table. Lampard has been handed the task of changing this across nine league games as he holds the place of head coach ahead of the summer.

The 44-year-old has already been in charge of several members of his squad following his dismissal from the club in January 2021 and will now have to find away around a the huge 33-man squad at his disposal. Ahead of the game, Chelsea's American Twitter page dropped a hint at who would be involved.

In a pre-match graphic, N'Golo Kante, Reece James and Christian Pulisic are all depicted. James and Kante were both selected from the off last time out whereas Pulisic was on the bench.

The American had his best period of form under Lampard and could use the Englishman's return as a way to spark his form once again. Meanwhile James looked closer to his best on Tuesday whilst Kante impressed on his first start since August.

When asked about what he had planned for the team in his unexpected second stint, Lampard said: "I'm delighted to get the opportunity and I want to be thankful for that, for the people that have decided to give me an opportunity. I'm confident in myself, have a good understanding of the squad, of course I've worked with a lot of them before, but also the training ground, the stadium, the fans, what Chelsea fans want and I'll do my utmost in this period to give them what they want with my own hard work.

"Modern football has big squads and I understand Chelsea might be the top end of that. I remember being here before and I had lots of difficult decisions of really good players and good people that you have to tell, you're not involved this week. Part of the job is to try and manage that situation and make every player feel included.

"Maybe in the beginning, with it being a short term, that's a positive thing for me because everyone can have a clean slate as such, and show in training and be competitive in training and the competitive nature can crossover onto the pitch. That's a good thing about the squad, you can push each other and try and manage that.

"In terms of goalscoring, there's no genius answer for a coach to explain to you about scoring goals to a point. You can set up the structure of a team and work to get your team in a dominant area of the pitch a lot. We saw that against Liverpool, a lot of good chances.

"All I'll be here is to work repetition on the training ground, to work in terms of speaking to the players. Fortunately, it was a big part of my game. That's not me comparing it. It's just understanding the mindset to take that agressive, cold-hearted nature to want to score goals. I know the players will have that, it's just a case of trying to direct that in the right way."
