Chelsea second half player ratings vs Udinese: Koulibaly class, Kante dominant, Sterling good

Edouard Mendy

Having been beaten late in the opening 45 minutes by Gerard Deulofeu, Mendy would have wanted to keep a clean sheet in the second period. And he did so as Udinese didn't register a shot on target. 6

Cesar Azpilicueta

The legs may not move as quickly as they used to – and Azpilicueta may want to depart for Barcelona – but the Spaniard was reliable against Udinese and showcased his defensive nous when faced with a threatening one-on-one on the edge of the Chelsea box. 6

Thiago Silva

The 37-year-old didn't have to overdo things in the second half as Chelsea kept Udinese at bay. He positioned himself immaculately in the penalty box when needed to snuff out any danger. 7

Kalidou Koulibaly

The Senegal international only played 45 minutes during Chelsea's time in the USA, so the fact he got 70 under his belt in northern Italy will be hugely important ahead of the campaign. Throughout his time on the pitch, Koulibaly appeared completely at ease, both in and out of possession. Slotted in seamlessly. 7

Reece James

At his very best, James can dominate the right flank alone, but he was quiet against Udinese. He did tee up a chance for Mason Mount in the opening period, but that was his only major involvement as the England international was quiet before being replaced in the 70th minute. 6

N'Golo Kante

Chelsea have missed the Frenchman during their tour of the United States. After an all-action first half, Kante remained the Blues' standout performer after the break. The Frenchman almost grabbed his second goal of the night with a fine turn and shot from the edge of the box and was able to play 90 minutes. 8

Jorginho

An influential first-half performance from Jorginho continued into the second period as he moved the ball sharply across the pitch and was able to feed the Chelsea forwards regularly. Managed to play 83 minutes and is likely to start against Everton next weekend. 7

Marcos Alonso

The Spaniard may harbour ambitions of joining Barcelona this summer but was given 90 minutes in Udine. Alonso didn't have too much defending to do – always a positive – yet wasn't his usual threat in the final third. Unlikely to have usurped Ben Chilwell as first-choice left wing-back. 6

Mason Mount

After an excellent first-half performance, Mount was a little quieter after the break. The academy graduate continued to cause problems down the Chelsea left and was too unselfish in trying to tee up Sterling after breaking into the box rather than firing toward goal. Grabbed a deserved goal late on to round off the Bules' victory. 8

Raheem Sterling

He Grabbed Chelsea's second goal of the night and twice came close to adding the third after the break. Sterling's first effort was a backheeled one after a cutback from Kai Havertz, and the second was a deflected drive from the edge of the box that hit the post. The England international was a constant threat as the leader of the Blues' attack. 8

Kai Havertz

The German was the least threatening member of the Chelsea attack in the first half but should have got an assist after being found in space in the box by Mount. However, Havertz's cutback to Sterling wasn't clean and forced the England international to backheel a shot towards goal. 6

Substitutes

Callum Hudson-Odoi (for Reece James, 70)

Given the final 20 minutes at wing-back, Hudson-Odoi produced several dangerous crosses, one of which resulted in an easy finish for Mount. 7

Emerson Palmieri (for Kalidou Koulibaly, 70)

Played the final 20 minutes as the left centre-back and wasn't troubled. 6

Harvey Vale (for Kai Havertz, 70)

Played through the middle for much of his time on the pitch. 6

Kenedy (for Raheem Sterling, 83)

A couple of threatening runs but introduced late. N/A

Billy Gilmour (for Jorginho, 83)

No time to make an impact. N/A
