Chelsea second half player ratings vs Club America: Jorginho sharp, Mount delivers, Werner good

Marcus Bettinelli

Chelsea supporters have not seen much of Bettinelli since he arrived at the club last summer; that is very much the role of the number three goalkeeper. He was given 45 minutes and unfortunately conceded an own goal when Reece James' back pass skipped past him and into the net. 5

Cesar Azpilicueta

It's difficult to know how many more appearances in a Chelsea shirt Azpilicueta will make. Barcelona are keen on signing the Blues skipper, and he is understood to be open to a move to the Camp Nou. His 45-minute outing in Las Vegas was pretty much what Chelsea supporters have come to expect over the last decade: nothing flashy, but he got his work done. 6

Ethan Ampadu

After a solid loan spell at Venezia last season, Ampadu is back at Chelsea and fighting to earn a place in Tuchel's squad. He was given the second half in the middle of the back three, and although there was one misjudged header that led to a half-chance for Club America, he was bailed out by Emerson. 5

Emerson

With Chelsea having only signed Kalidou Koulibaly this summer – and the Senegal captain not being ready to feature – it was left to Emerson to slot in on the left of the back three. The Italian international had an impact at both ends, making one vital clearance and creating a good chance for Christian Pulisic, that was headed over by the American star. 6

Reece James

A mixed 45 minutes for the academy graduate. It was James who teed up Timo Werner's opening goal with a customary clever pass into the penalty area after receiving the ball from Jorginho. But minutes later, he played a blind back pass that ended up in his own net. He continued to offer an attacking threat but couldn't fashion a winner. 6

Jorginho

If there was one Chelsea player who needed a summer off more than most, it was Jorginho. The Italian was flogged during the 2021/22 campaign but looked far more his usual self during his outing in Las Vegas. He was constantly moving into space to receive the ball and played several clever passes forward. 7

Mason Mount

With no Mateo Kovacic or Billy Gilmour in the squad, Mount dropped into the double six alongside Jorginho and produced an all-action display that was capped off with the winning goal in the final ten minutes. Mount was able to evade a defender on the edge of the box and then whip a wonderful shot into the far corner. 7

Marcos Alonso

Another Chelsea player whose long-term future could be in Barcelona, Alonso, eased his way during the 45 minutes in Las Vegas. There were a couple of surges forward, a couple of lighter jogs back. It was a typical display from the Spaniard in truth. 6

Christian Pulisic

The American star would have been eager to get on the scoresheet on home turf, and he had a couple of chances. The first came early and was saved, while the second arrived midway through the half as he connected with an Emerson cross but could only direct the ball over. 6

Michy Batshuayi

Very few could have envisaged seeing Michy Batshuayi in a Chelsea shirt once again, but he was given a half at the point of the Chelsea attack and had a couple of good chances saved. However, his standout moment came after being put through by Pulisic, but the Belgian fired wide, although the offside flag then went up. 6

Timo Werner

Now into his third season as a Chelsea player, it's uncertain quite what comes next for Werner. But he looked sharp during his outing in Las Vegas and made a couple of nice darts forward before he got on the scoresheet with a close-range finish after seeing his first effort blocked. 7
