Chelsea's Raheem Sterling set to make decision on World Cup return ahead of England vs France

Chelsea star Raheem Sterling is set to make a decision on whether he will return to Qatar for England's quarter-final clash against France this weekend. The 27-year-old flew home from the tournament to be with his family after his home was the target of a burglary last weekend.

The Chelsea star had played in the first two group games, scoring against Iran, before being replaced by Phil Foden in the last match against Wales. Gareth Southgate admitted he was not sure whether Sterling would return after confirming the news that the Blues winger had returned to the UK.

Jordan Henderson and Kalidou Koulibaly both sent messages of support to the England international after hearing the news. Surrey Police released a statement this week which stated that two men had been arrested on suspicion of a second attempted burglary in the same village earlier this week.

Sterling now looks set to decide whether he will return to Qatar ahead of England’s World Cup quarter-final against France, according to the Press Association. The 27-year-old is believed to be willing to travel back to Qatar, as long as he is assured of his family’s safety, with additional security measures being worked through this week.

The FA are yet to provide an update on whether the Chelsea star will join back up with his England teammates, but it is understood the governing body has been given the green light to look at the possibility of his return to the team’s camp. Sterling is said to have had around £300,000 worth of jewellery stolen from his house.

Surrey Police's latest statement regarding the burglary incident reads: "Two men were arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary last night (December 6) in the Oxshott area. They are currently in custody.

"Following reports of suspicious activity around 6.40pm, a number of resources were deployed, including the dog unit and the police helicopter. Our colleagues from British Transport Police also provided assistance.

"At this time these arrests are not being linked to an ongoing investigation into a burglary which received significant media coverage over the weekend. That separate investigation remains ongoing and as of 12pm on Wednesday, December 7 no arrests have been made in connection with that.

"Officers are carrying out enquiries into the circumstances and the investigation remains on going."
