Chelsea's Jorginho 'dreams' of playing under Pep Guardiola amid failed Man City transfer

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has admitted that he still 'dreams' about playing under Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola following a failed move to the Etihad Stadium in 2018.

The Italian had been making a wave of strong noises in his homeland after a string of fine performances for Napoli and was attracting no shortage of interest, particularly from clubs in England.

But considering Chelsea appointed former Napoli chief Maurizio Sarri as their new boss in July 2018, Jorginho followed in his manager's footsteps, signing for the west London outfit on the same day that they installed Sarri as Antonio Conte's successor.

Almost four years on from his arrival at Stamford Bridge, the central-midfielder, who helped the Blues win the Champions League at City's expense last season, has revealed that he was not expecting to join Chelsea, confirming he was set to put pen to paper at another English club.

"I wasn't supposed to come to Chelsea," said Jorginho, as quoted by Football Italia. "I was supposed to have arrived at another club. Another English club.

"And then it happened as it happened and I arrived at Chelsea. So with Chelsea everything happened very fast.

"When I saw their offer, I was already in London and I said 'let’s go'."

However, despite having proven to be a roaring success at Stamford Bridge, particularly in the last 12 months under Thomas Tuchel, the midfielder, who has scored nine goals in all competitions this season, still dreams about experiencing playing under Guardiola's management and methods.

Asked if he has continued to dream about playing under Guardiola, the Italy international added: "I have. I don’t know if it will happen. But yes, he's a reference.

"When I was a kid, I watched his Barcelona win everything with Ronaldinho, Xavi and [Andreas] Iniesta."
