Chelsea's Christian Pulisic shoved by referee as Newcastle defeat sparks chaos at St James' Park

Chelsea's winless run in the Premier League stretched to five games on Saturday evening as they fell to a 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United.

Former Arsenal midfielder Joe Willock bagged the games only goal in the second half as the Magpies returned to third in the table with their eighth win of the season. The defeat leaves Graham Potter's side in eighth-place and eight points behind Tottenham in the final top four spot.

Chelsea managed only four shots against Nick Pope and never really looked like finding a way back into the game. Potter threw Christian Pulisic, Marc Cucurella, Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz on in an attempt to rescue a point, leaving striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on the bench.

However, as the Blues threw everything at Eddie Howe's men in the final stages of the contest, there was a bizarre moment that occurred. After referee Rob Jones booked Newcastle substitute for obstructing Curucella ahead of a throw-in, Pulisic was pictured approaching Sean Longstaff with Jones next to him.

The referee was quick to dismiss the American's attempts at an argument with the midfielder and was seen pushing the Chelsea winger out of the way. Pulisic then seems to question Jones' action, in which the Merseyside-born official orders him to go away.
