Chelsea reminded of £158m transfer mistake after what happened during Man City vs Man United

Former Chelsea target Jadon Sancho and ex-Blues attacking midfielder Kevin De Bruyne have both reminded Marina Granovskaia and co of the £158million transfer mistakes that were highlighted during the Manchester derby.

On the pitch, it was an electric opening 45 minutes between the red and blue side of the city with both aforementioned players heavily amongst the three goals that were netted at the Etihad in this Super Sunday fixture.

First off, the Belgian midfield maestro picked his spot as he ruthlessly finished off Bernardo Silva's fifth minute cross that left David de Gea with no chance in the visitors' net.

17 minutes later, Sancho rounded off a free flowing Red Devils counter-attack as he cut in from the left to curl his effort beyond the outstretched arms of Ederson who did his best to try and prevent the former City academy graduate.

However, only a few minutes later, carnage in the United penalty area resulted in De Bruyne sweeping up efficiently to smash in from close range after some pinball in the penalty areas that came about when de Gea initially saved from Phil Foden.

2-1 at the break, a game that didn't have much influence to Chelsea, who sit comfortably in third place, significantly off pace in the title race but safe enough at this current moment to be drawn back into a potential top four scrap.

The Chelsea fans who did enjoy that first period would have recognised the fact that the two goal scorers for either side had some form of history with their club.

De Bruyne, was signed from Belgian club Genk back in 2012 before having brief and unsuccessful stints in Jose Mourinho's side but only after two years of his move across the continent, Chelsea decided to cash in as they sold the prospect at the time to Wolfsburg in 2014 for only £20million.

A decision that had and still to the day has haunted the club who have seen Man City's maestro prove influential on their various Premier league title wins since the Cityzens paid nearly £80m for their number 17 back in 2015.

Then with Sancho, despite not having donned the Blues jersey, the Englishman was heavily linked to moving to the capital two summer transfer windows ago when Frank Lampard was given free rein to sign players after the transfer ban ended.

Lampard, who is now managing Everton, decided against splashing big bucks on the 21-year-old and instead used the funds provided to him by Roman Abramovich to sign the trio of Hakim Ziyech, Kai Havertz and Timo Werner.

It is too early to say that the Blues not signing Sancho was a massive error but with the former Dortmund star shining for United this term just like De Bruyne is for City, the £158m combined valuations of both players, as per Transfermarkt, are important figures to consider when making an overall evaluation at the end of 2021/22.

Remember, both players have netted against the current European and World Champions this season.
