Chelsea reach Marc Cucurella agreement as Todd Boehly set to beat Man City to Brighton star

Chelsea have reached an agreement with Marc Cucurella on personal terms ahead of a potential switch to Stamford Bridge this summer. That's according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims the Brighton defender is prepared to accept a move to Stamford Bridge once the clubs agree on a transfer fee.

The reporter adds that discussions are set to continue between the Blues and the Seagulls in order to get a deal over the line. Should the move be completed, it would mark some swift business from new owner Todd Boehly, with talks over the Spaniard only being revealed on Monday.

Reports have claimed that Chelsea are more willing to meet Brighton's £50million price tag for the 24-year-old, with Premier League champions Manchester City interested, but unwilling to match that valuation. The transfer interest comes after an impressive debut season in England for Cucurella.

The Spain international moved to the south coast from Getafe just one-year ago in a deal worth roughly £16million. The defender made 38 appearances across all competitions, often playing as a left-sided wing-back in Brighton's back three system under Graham Potter.

Cucurella's impressive performances saw him take a clean sweep of awards at the end of the season at his club, winning both player of the season and players' player of the season. However, with apparent interest in the full-back, he soon handed in a transfer request to make a move away.

Should Chelsea manage to settle on a deal with Brighton, it appears as though he will become the third signing of the summer for Thomas Tuchel. The German coach recently discussed his "dream" of having players already experienced in the league with the 5th stand app: "It's always the dream of every manager that you find players in the same league and who can adapt maybe quicker than other players, but it's also a very individual process."

While it remains to be seen exactly where he would play in the backline, given competition from Ben Chilwell, it does show the ambition of both the manager and new owner as to which targets they are looking to sign.
