Chelsea prepare alternative Cristiano Ronaldo transfer as Todd Boehly plots Barcelona hijacking

Chelsea look set to swoop in and welcome Robert Lewandowski to Stamford Bridge if the Bayern Munich star's dream Barcelona move fails to materialise. The 33-year-old has been heavily linked with an exit from the Bundesliga champions this summer and, while a switch to Stamford Bridge isn't the striker's preferred destination, a transfer to west London is still on the cards.

According to the Daily Star, Chelsea are plotting a bid for the Poland international if a move to the Camp Nou falls through. The Spanish giants' well-documented financial issues continue to hamper Xavi's freedom in the summer window, and such could determine as to whether Barcelona can sign Lewandowski.

He featured 34 times for the German giants in the Bundesliga this season, directly contributing towards 39 goals. Despite his age, Lewandowski's impressive displays steered Bayern to a tenth successive title, attracting attention from a host of leading European sides.

He sees his contract at the Allianz Arena expire at the end of next season, casting an element of doubt over his future in Germany. And, speaking on his future in May, Lewandowski addressed the rumours linking him with an exit.

The evergreen talisman said: "It is very likely that this is my last match with Bayern. I can't say 100%, but maybe it was. We want to find the best solution for me and the club."

Romelu Lukaku's uninspired return to Chelsea has fuelled Thomas Tuchel's desire to bolster the Blues' strike force this summer, with Cristiano Ronaldo also heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge. football.london understand that Chelsea have sounded out a move for the Manchester United striker, with the 37-year-old keen to ply his trade in the Champions League this season.

According to ESPN, the evergreen talisman is open to a move to Stamford Bridge, but the west Londoners remain hesitant as to whether to escalate their interest, with Tuchel believed to have been granted the final say. Despite Todd Boehly having laid out the groundwork to complete a deal following a meeting with super agent Jorge Mendes, Tuchel is not convinced.

The Independent say that the German has 'little interest' in welcoming Ronaldo to west London amid growing developments regarding Lewandowski's future.
