Only one Chelsea player who started against Real Madrid managed a rating of six in French newspaper L'Equipe after the Blues were played off the park at Stamford Bridge.
Thomas Tuchel's side are staring down the barrel of elimination from the Champions League at the quarter-final stage after losing the first leg 3-1 on Wednesday night. Karim Benzema was the hero for Los Blancos, scoring a breathtaking 25-minute hat-trick to make it back-to-back trebles on the European stage.
The French forward left Edouard Mendy with no chance with two sublime headers in the first half before Kai Havertz pulled one back for the hosts. However, Mendy's howler right after half-time handed Benzema a simple tap-in to complete his hat-trick and restore the two-goal cushion Real Madrid will take into the return leg at the Santiago Bernabeu next Tuesday.
Very few men in blue could hold their heads high by the time the referee drew the action to a close in West London and this was reflected in their ratings in Thursday's edition of L'Equipe. The Paris-based outlet are famously harsh and have awarded just 13 10/10 performances in their history, with Benzema only recording a nine despite his three-goal showing.
Christian Pulisic was dealt the lowest mark of any player on the pitch with two while four players - Mendy, Antonio Rudiger, Thiago Silva and Andreas Christensen - recorded threes. There was slight improvement further up the pitch as Jorginho - who assisted Havertz's goal - was awarded a five, as were Reece James and Mason Mount.
Havertz was handed the highest grade of any Chelsea player with a six thanks to his 40th-minute header. However, there was bleak reading for captain Cesar Azpilicueta and N'Golo Kante, who only managed ratings of four - which was the average mark for the Chelsea starting XI.

In contrast, Real Madrid averaged 6.5 with Benzema leading the way and Federico Valverde, Casemiro, David Alaba and Thibaut Courtois managing ratings of seven. There were plenty of sixes with Vinicius Junior, Luka Modric, Dani Carvajal and Ferland Mendy judged to have performed satisfactorily.
Toni Kroos and Eder Militao may be slightly aggrieved to have been awarded marks of five, although the latter picked up an early yellow card and struggled with knocks throughout the match. Vinicius and Modric may also be wondering why they only earned ratings of six given they assisted Benzema's first two goals.
The Brazilian winger was especially threatening throughout the match, giving James and Christensen a torrid time down Chelsea's right flank. As Blues boss Tuchel noted after the match, his side will need to improve drastically ahead of the second leg to avoid being "hammered" in the Spanish capital.
