Chelsea player ratings vs Nottingham Forest as Silva shines, Havertz dire, Koulibaly struggles

Kepa Arrizabalaga - The Spanish goalkeeper stood up well to Nottingham Forest's first chances to deny Brennan Johnson after the forward left Chelsea's defenders flat-footed. A decent outing again from the goalkeeper. 7.

Cesar Azpilicueta - Chelsea's captain was once again given the difficult task of replacing Reece James and will always be tested in doing so. Had moments of struggle but mostly did what was necessary. 6.

Kalidou Koulibaly - Was posed a number of problems by Taiwo Awoniyi but battled throughout the game and showed some passing ability too. Fortunate not to receive a first half yellow card and may have to do more to keep Trevoh Chalobah out of the team much longer. 5.

Thiago Silva - The Brazilian veteran had an intriguing battle with Brennan Johnson and showed that his precision and timing were usually enough to deal with the pace he lacks. 7.

Marc Cucurella - Was noticeably the paciest member of Chelsea's backline and made use of it to help Chelsea recover as Forest broke. Combined well with Silva on the left. 6.

Jorginho - The Italian took a higher position on the pitch than supporters will have traditionally expected and allowed more room for Silva and Koulibaly to play their passes. The midfielder was stifled of possession of his own however. 5.

Mason Mount - Showed flashes of bright moments when carrying the ball but his delivery rarely backed up his momentum. 5.

Denis Zakaria - The Swiss international has rarely put a foot wrong when handed an opportunity and produced a decent first half performance before Chelsea were left under pressure in the second period. Another hour that will keep him in contention for a place in the XI however. 6.

Raheem Sterling - Had flattered to deceive in the opening 15 minutes but found an impact when he lashed the ball in from close range after it rebounded off of the bar. Struggled to impact the game following his strike however. 5.

Kai Havertz - A very quiet outing from Havertz whose ability leading the line was lauded by Graham Potter ahead of the match. Did nothing to vindicate his head coach. 4.

Christian Pulisic - The US international started back to back Premier League games for the first time this season and played his role in getting the ball into the box ahead of Sterling's opening goal in the game. Probably Chelsea's most threatening player as he was fouled time and again. 7.

Substitutes:

Mateo Kovacic - The Croatian made himself available for the ball as the Blues tried to re-establish their control of play but created little overall. 5.

Hakim Ziyech - Produced a brilliant ball with 10 minutes remaining on the clock to hand Pierre-Emerick Aubameayng an opportunity but the former Gabon international could not take advantage. The Morocco star brought an air of creativity Chelsea had lacked. 6.

Conor Gallagher - Provided some intensity that Chelsea had lacked but ultimately created little. 5.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - Could not capitalise on his single opportunity. 5.

Carny Chukwuemeka - Not enough time to make an impact.
