Chelsea player ratings vs Newcastle United as Sterling impresses but Kepa and Gallagher struggle

Kepa Arrizabalaga – Could probably do better for Anthony Gordon's goal. It wasn't a howler but he probably should save it. 5.

Cesar Azpilicueta – Had a solid enough game. Was a nice ovation for him pre-match with a great banner unveiled. 6.

Thiago Silva – Great as always. A couple of fantastic blocks to deny a dangerous Newcastle attack. 6.

Trevoh Chalobah – A moment in the first-half where he tracked back and stopped Alexander Isak in his tracks earned him a standing ovation from the home supporters. Looked good again – he's been in great form recently. Came off at half-time. 6.

Lewis Hall – Not up to the heights of the last couple of games but produced some dangerous crosses again. 6.

Conor Gallagher – Not his best game. A lot of running around but he didn't do too much in possession. 5.

Enzo Fernandez – Probably didn't see the ball as much as he would have liked but another decent display. 6.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek – Was really good in the middle of the pitch on what might be his last game for Chelsea. A great ovation when he came off. 6.

Noni Madueke – Dangerous yet again but just lacking the end product right now. Saying that, he put a couple of dangerous crosses in but the movement from his teammates was not there. 6.

Raheem Sterling – Does really well to level the game for Chelsea. His shot wasn't going in but it forced Kieran Trippier to make a mistake and score an own goal. However, he missed a couple of great opportunities otherwise his rating would be much higher. 7.

Kai Havertz – Pretty anonymous, to be honest. There are a couple of times where he has the ball in dangerous positions and you want him to shoot but instead he passes. 5.

Substitutes

Wesley Fofana – Did well. Not tested too much, to be perfectly honest.

Carney Chukwuemeka – Looked bright but not enough of the ball, really, which is a shame. But whenever he did have it, he looked as if he would make something happen.

Joao Felix – See above. Didn't impact proceedings too much.

Mateo Kovacic – Came on in the second-half. Didn't do too much but offered his usual energy in midfield.

Christian Pulisic – Nice to see him get a few minutes at the end. Could be for the last time.
