Chelsea player ratings vs Manchester United: Reece James in full boss mode with N’Golo Kante dominant

Chelsea surrendered two points on Thursday with a 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Kai Havertz missed a number of chances in the first half before Marcos Alonso fired the Blues ahead with a powerful volley after an hour, following good work by Reece James.

However, Cristiano Ronaldo popped up almost immediately to deliver a draw for the Red Devils.

James Robson was at Old Trafford to deliver his verdict on the Chelsea players...

Edouard Mendy - 6

A spectator for the vast majority of the match and then beaten by a moment of sheer brilliance from Ronaldo.

Cesar Azpilicueta - 6

Had to cope with Marcus Rashford’s bursts and successfully forced the England forward into blind alleys.

Thiago Silva - 7

It looked set up for a fascinating battle of the golden oldies with the Brazilian up against Ronaldo. But United’s No7 spent much of the game dropping deep, such was the lack of space.

Antonio Rudiger - 7

No danger of his impending departure affecting his focus. Snapped into every challenge and drove forward like usual.

Reece James - 9

United could not get near to him as he completely bossed the right-hand side. One cross for Havertz was wonderful and deserved a better finish. So unlucky when second half effort came back off the post.

N’Golo Kante - 8

One of his better performances of late – chasing all over the pitch and springing a host of attacks. Brilliant through-ball should have been finished by Havertz.

Jorginho - 7

Used the ball really well – but it does help when you are given the type of freedom he was to spray passes about.

Marcos Alonso - 7

A wonderful strike fired Chelsea ahead. Much of the visitors’ threat came down James’ side, but the Spaniard gave them a tough time as well.

Mason Mount - 7

Tormented United with his dashes into the box. Second half cross might have provided a goal for Werner and then his delicious back-heel set up James to hit the post.

Kai Havertz - 6

Really should have done better with a number of chances – hitting the side netting with one and firing straight at De Gea with two others.

Timo Werner - 6

Came desperately close to turning in Mount’s second-half cross. Harried United’s defenders, but not much of a goal threat.

Substitutes

Romelu Lukaku (Havertz, 70) - 4

Booed when he came on and provided little threat to United’s goal, with one wayward header his best chance.

Christian Pulisic (Werner, 71) - 4

Could not repeat his late heroics he produced against West Ham.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Kante, 82) - N/A
