Edouard Mendy - Had an early scare when he was closed down by Julian Alvarez but produced some fine saves to make up for it. 6.
Trevoh Chalobah - Put in a crucial early block and it felt like he stopped everything in the opening half when Man City got into Chelsea's box. Sadly his timing was off early in the second period and his foul on Riyad Mahrez allowed the Man City start to capitalise from the free kick. 6.
Kalidou Koulibaly - Picked up a yellow card as he clipped Jack Grealish's foot with a sliding tackle just outside the box in the 18th minute and had a difficult evening all told. Produced a classy last ditch challenge in the first period but saw some wayward passing, and looked like he would have blocked Mahrez's free kick had he jumped in the wall. 5.

Marc Cucurella - Perhaps Cucurella's best defensive performance since joining the club and helped the Blues beat City's press in the first half with some impressive composure and passing. 7
Ruben Loftus-Cheek - A quiet opening period but showed his array of passing ability from the right during the second. Showed his versatility to play at wing-back and on the right of the back three. 6.
Denis Zakaria - A more difficult evening than he enjoyed against Dinamo Zagreb with some questionable passing though he retained his ability to win the ball back on occasion and to provide a disruptive presence. 5.
Mateo Kovacic - At times showed his immense quality on the ball, jinking and jiving through the City midfield and hinted at what he was capable of if he was 100% fit. 6.
Lewis Hall - A fearless first outing under Graham Potter for the youngsters who was relentless in his efforts down the left wing. Would have likely preferred to have been more clinical in front of goal but a really promising display on the whole. 7.
Hakim Ziyech - Showed some moments of sheer class with the ball at his feet and produced some fine work in the city box but perhaps would have liked to impact the game more frequently. 6.
Armando Broja - The 21-year-old forward earned his second Chelsea start and proved to be handful for the opposition with his physicality and will to win the ball. An outing that still requires some fine-tuning but could to see the Cobham product earn more than an hour on the pitch. 6.
Christian Pulisic - Would have hoped to do better with a hapless finish from Ziyech's cross in the the 13th minute but the American showed some confident bursts forward for the Blues to create chances for himself and others. 6.
Substitutes
Cesar Azpilicueta - Solid when he entered the field and produced a delicious cross in the final 10 minutes that was just out of the reach of Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic. 6.
Conor Gallagher - A battling evening for the midfielder who drew a number of fouls with his tenacity. 6.
Mason Mount - Brought some energy to the night but could not inspire a Chelsea comeback. 5.
Raheem Sterling - Received a nice reception from most of the Man City crowd but ultimately could not impact the game too much. 5.
Kai Havertz - Limited impact of heading on in the latter stages of the game. 5.
