Chelsea player ratings vs Man City as Carney Chukwuemeka impresses, Denis Zakaria stakes claim

Kepa Arrizabalaga - Few will have expected how little he would be required to do in the opening half. That changed in the second and the Spanish glovesman perhaps could have done more to claim Jack Grealish's cross for Riyad Mahrez, but was left stuck by the quality of the ball. 6.

Cesar Azpilicueta - The Spaniard was generally solid in defence and combined well with Hakim Ziyech on the right side of the pitch. Did look vulnerable when isolated with Phil Foden and Jack Grealish however. 6.

Thiago Silva - The Brazilian once again showed his command of time through his positioning and interceptions, and partnered well with Kalidou Koulibaly. 7.

Kalidou Koulibaly - A return to the left side of defence saw a more comfortable outing for the former Napoli star in comparison to against Nottingham Forest. Not the perfect performance but certainly improved. 6.

Marc Cucurella - Once again has saved some of his best form for taking on the Premier League champions but was unable to maintain his strong start. Struggled one v one and would have hoped to do more to challenge Mahrez for his opening goal. 6.

Mateo Kovacic - The Croatian midfielder made his first start since before the World Cup and with the support of Denis Zakaria was able to exert his passing influence on the game. Threatened to fade as Manchester City's influence grew, but displayed some fantastic dribbling late in the game as Chelsea pushed for an equaliser. 7.

Denis Zakaria - His presence continues to bring something Chelsea missed in the early stages of the season, although some of his passing was more wayward that Graham Potter would have liked. Showed great strength to push through pressure even against multiple opposition players and giving Chelsea's head coach plenty to think about. Continued to push on strong late into a game for the first time 7.

Hakim Ziyech - Was disciplined in Chelsea's midfield three in defence while pushing wider when the Blues had time to attack. Not as incisive in attack as he can be but a solid start for the Morocco international. 6.

Raheem Sterling - Not even five minutes had gone on the clock when Sterling required a change due to a hamstring issue. N/A.

Kai Havertz - Had little direct influence in the opposition box but looked to occupy City's backline with his movement. 6.

Christian Pulisic - Looked lively on the left once again but saw his first true chance denied by a very good tackle from John Stones. Was injured in the collision and replaced after 22 minutes. 5.

Substititutes:

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - Showed moments where he looked like he would have the beating of the opposition if provided with the correct pass. Limited impact before being substituted in the second period, looked furious as he came off. 5.

Carney Chukwuemeka - Had a quick influence on the game and was unlucky to see his shot hit the post in the first half. Looked comfortable on the ball and showed good decision-making and ability to carry the ball throughout his outing. 7.

Lewis Hall - Quickly showed his comfort at the first team level once again and provided some quality deliveries from the left. 7.

Conor Gallagher - Showed plenty of urgency in the centre of the pitch and kept City honest when they tried to waste time. As always, brought plenty of intensity and helped Chelsea find some control on the game once again. 6.

Omari Hutchinson - The youngster ensured Nathan Ake had to commit to his challenges and created a nuisance of himself. Kept things simple when on the ball. 6.
