Kepa Arrizabalaga - Played Jorginho into a difficult situation early in the match but generally stood up well to Salzburg's attacks. Was unfortunate to concede to Noah Okafor's deflected strike. 6.
Cesar Azpilicueta - The Spaniard's pace was exposed in a couple of moments, but the Chelsea captain was still able to provide some big clearances for the Blues. 6.
Thiago Silva - Showed his ability to make the perfect tackle and his enduring quality as he prepares for his 38th birthday. Unfortunately, he was caught out when attempting to tackle Junior Adamu in the build-up to Salzburg's equaliser. 6.

Marc Cucurella - The Blues star most familiar with Graham Potter, Cucurella was quickly given an expansive remit by his head coach. The Spaniard largely played on the left of a back three but still appeared to be a full-back when required. Appeared pivotal to the system. 7.
Reece James - He started the match quietly by his high standards, but a quick turn and some good play saw him start the move for Chelsea's opening goal. Picked up an unnecessary yellow card in the second period. 6.
Jorginho - He was left in a difficult position by Kepa early on but managed to win a foul on the edge of his own box. Controlled play well when on the ball. 6.
Mate Kovacic - The Croatian showed promising moments carrying the ball forwards and looked as if he'd been encouraged to do so. Caught in possession a couple of times, but an encouraging outing moving forwards. 6.
Mason Mount - Mount played an advanced role in a midfield three, albeit in a deeper role than he was accustomed to under the previous regime. A better outing from the England international. 6.
Raheem Sterling - A slightly deeper role than Sterling had been handed under Thomas Tuchel, but the 27-year-old looked every bit as threatening. With more space to run into, Sterling was a constant threat and showed some tidy passing, too, albeit with some pause in the box. 9.
Kai Havertz - He seemed to be more dedicated to appearing in the opposition area during his time on the pitch but lacked finesse at crucial moments. The German forward could not mark his 100th Chelsea appearance with a significant impact. 5.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - Like his forward partner, proved unable to capitalise in the opposition area despite a couple of opportunities emerging. The striker received a strong reception from supporters for his efforts when he was replaced, however, as he made his home debut. 5.
Substitutes
Armando Broja - Once again provided a moment of threat immediately after coming on the pitch but was flagged offside after putting the ball wide. Provided the perfect ball for Hakim Ziyech after starting a promising Chelsea break. Missed a big chance of his own in stoppage time. 7.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek - Entered the field to play just off Broja and made his presence felt to draw fouls. 6.
Conor Gallagher - Attempted to drive the play forward when he was on the pitch and ensured he was involved. 6.
Hakim Ziyech - Looked to have the chance of the match when Broja slid the ball across to him, but his shot from six yards was well saved. Found himself involved a lot in his short time on the pitch but could not capitalise. 6.
Christian Pulisic - Limited impact during his short time on the pitch. 5.
