Chelsea player ratings vs Everton as Thiago Silva shines and Raheem Sterling proves Tuchel right

Edouard Mendy - The 30-year-old goalkeeper produced one of the moments of the match as he pulled off two impressive saves before coming to claim the ball among a box full of players early in the second period. 7.

Cesar Azpilicueta - A quiet afternoon for the Spaniard after extending his deal during the week. Crucial work to deny Dele Alli in the 73rd minute, when the former Spurs star looked destined to score. 6.

Thiago Silva - Showed all his quality on and off the ball, and in one-on-one situations on Saturday afternoon. The Brazilian veteran could be seen taking control of the Blues backline and ensuring that Koulibaly was firmly instructed in his position as he continues to adjust. Despite his lack of pace, he managed to block Demarai Gray's effort having asked Mendy to come and collect the ball. Pretty imperious. 8.

Kalidou Koulibaly - The Senegal international still required some guidance as he adjusts to being part of Chelsea's back three but showed a great deal of ability in denying Anthony Gordon and taking the ball forward. Played a clever pass into Ben Chilwell for the England star to win a penalty. Had to be subbed in the second period as he looked to cramp up. 7.

Reece James - A sluggish start from the wing-back who grew in strength heading down the right flank as the game wore on. His versatility proved useful as he also had to play on the left and in the back three before the 90 minutes was up. 6.

N'Golo Kante - A steady afternoon for the Frenchman with some promising touches but lacking that cutting edge required as he found his shots blocked. A decent outing as he completed 90 minutes. 6.

Jorginho - Quietly got on with his business at Goodison Park and ensured he was readily available to receive the ball from Koulibaly and Silva around the halfway line. Showed real composure to dispatch his penalty at the end of the second half as Yerry Mina did his best to disrupt proceedings. The Italian faded in the second period where a few more mistakes crept in. 6.

Ben Chilwell - The 25-year-old probably hasn't quite returned to the standard Chelsea fans have become accustomed to but he still showed his quality. The wing-back ensured he was still challenging the opposition backline and won the Blues a crucial penalty when Abdoulaye Doucoure bundled him. 6.

Mason Mount - Chelsea's 2021/22 player of the season saw a couple of forays into the box thwarted but lacked a sustained impact on the match. 5.

Raheem Sterling - The former Man City man was a hive of activity in and around Everton's box, and showed plenty of strength to hold off the likes of Yerry Mina. Sterling has already started to prove he has the ability to beat a player that the Blues have sorely missed. Thomas Tuchel said that he was a priority signing and he already looks like he could be vital for the season. 7.

Kai Havertz - The German struggled to truly get into the match in the opening half and while he rotated his position well with Sterling, could not exert the same influence. 5.

Substitutes

Ruben Loftus-Cheek - Another outing at right wing-back for the Cobham product who did not look out of place and looked to push up well in his cameo. 6.

Christian Pulisic - Looked to operate along Everton's backline and drive from deep but could not create much. 5.

Marc Cucurella - Slotted in on the left flank despite replacing Koulibaly and already has the affection of the away support. Caught out once trying to intercept the ball but otherwise solid. 6.

Armando Broja - An early outing for the young forward with some promising turns and touches. 6.

Conor Gallager - Not enough time to make an impact.
