Kepa Arrizabalaga - The Spaniard had some very uncertain distribution early in the game but was largely untroubled in net and could not react to Cesar Azpilicueta's own goal as the ball deflected off him. 5.
Wesley Fofana - Performed well in direct competition with Ivan Toney as the Brentford forward looked to find room in Chelsea's backline. Showed his dominance in the second period. Beaten too easily by Bryan Mbeumo, after having to cover for Thiago Silva, for Brentford's second goal. 5
Thiago Silva - The Brazilian veteran was a threat from corners and generally solid but bit too hard as Brentford looked to counter in the build up to the second goal. 5.

Trevoh Chalobah - Started on the left of a back three and produced a couple of clum.sy challenges early in the game but grew into it and looked strong at right back when the Blues changed shape. Wasn't afraid to venture forward and worked well with Fofana. 6.
Cesar Azpilicueta - Chelsea's captain was tasked with an expansive position on the right flank and did well to ensure he pushed Brentford back. The defender was fairly solid in a lacklustre first half but will be disappointed to have seen the ball bounce off him and into Chelsea's net. 5.
N'Golo Kante - The French midfielder produced a much more fluent outing in the second period when Chelsea changed shape but the 32-year-old could not find the crucial touches in the final third. 5.
Enzo Fernandez - Looked to take the ball from deep but didn't always have options in the opening half. Fine but was unable to hit he heights he often has since arriving. 5.
Mateo Kovacic - The Croatian international looked to keep play ticking but couldn't always find his groove. 4.
Ben Chilwell - Provided Chelsea's threat in the open half as he so often does, but was required to be more limited when the Blues changed shape. A solid night for the 26-year-old. 6.
Conor Gallagher - Was one of few players who could inject pace into Chelsea's attack although his production was a bit erratic. Perhaps surprising he was the player to make way at the halfway mark. 5.
Raheem Sterling - Battled in the first period without much success as Chelsea struggled to find him in the correct manner to make use of his talents. Moved to the right flank in the second period and looked much more comfortable and was able to take the ball on the run more frequently. 5.
Substitutes:
Mykhailo Mudryk - If nothing else, the Ukraine international always brings pace and he brought threat with it upon his introduction at Stamford Bridge. 6.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - Chelsea struggled to find him immediately but he found room for a shot and looped a header just over on the backpedal before the hour mark was up. The former Arsenal striker provided a greater focal point though his finishing may need work after such little football. 6.
Noni Madueke - Showed some tidy footwork on the right flank following his introduction. 5.
Joao Felix - Had a few nice touches but little time to make an impact. 5.
