Chelsea player ratings as Denis Zakaria delivers on debut, Chilwell misfortune, Sterling promise

Edouard Mendy - Untroubled throughout the first period other than for Dinamo Zagreb's opener but was called upon to save well early in the second half from Josip Sutalo's header.

Cesar Azpilicueta - May have hoped to see a stronger challenge form the Chelsea captain to prevent the assist as Dinamo opened the scoring but otherwise a pretty solid evening and showed some confidence going forwards. 6.

Trevoh Chalobah - Lost Bruno Petkovic for Dinamo's opening gaol but otherwise proved why he is quickly becoming Chelsea's Mr Consistent. Looked comfortable bringing the ball out and being in control of the defence in Thiago Silva's absence. 6.

Kalidou Koulibaly - Suffered a brief injury scare in the opening period but soon returned to the pitch. Showed quality on the ball on his return and after a slow start seemed to grow stronger in the tackle. 6.

Ben Chilwell - Showed plenty of enthusiasm going forwards and some nifty touches to match. Appeared more confident than in previous outings and seemed a positive step. A real shame to see him pull up with what looked like a hamstring issue in added time. 7.

Denis Zakaria - It was a long wait for our first moments of Denis Zakaria at Stamford Bridge but it wasn't long before we saw his impact. The Swiss international was soon showing his physicality and even the ability to score a goal as he slotted past a Dinamo defender and goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic. An impressive debut that will definitely leave some wondering why he had to wait so long. 7.

Jorginho - Appeared to help Denis Zakaria throughout the match and relaying Graham Potter's messages. Initiated the move that led to Raheem Sterling's goal and had one of his better nights. 7.

Mason Mount - The Chelsea academy product showed some flashy touches throughout the evening and his pull back was deflected into the direction of Zakaria for the loanee to finish. Was often Chelsea's furthest player forward and forced Livakovic into an impressive save in the second half.

Kai Havertz - Played quite a fluid role alongside Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and was one of the Blues main outlets forward. Would have hoped to do better with his second half header before he was replaced. 6.

Raheem Sterling - Showed fantastic strength and composure in the build up to finding the net for Chelsea's equaliser. Perhaps should have done better just before the halfway mark when he hit a ball over from the half-volley, albeit not an easy opportunity. 7.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - Knocked the ball back to Sterling for the England international's goal but perhaps looked most promising with his efforts attacking on the left side of the pitch. Hit the crossbar with a curling, dipping effort after cutting in but was unable to trouble the Dinamo goal often enough. 6.

Substitutes

Thiago Silva - Settled straight into the back four alongside Chalobah and enjoyed a relatively untroubled outing. 6.

Conor Gallagher - The midfielder brought his trademark intensity for the Blues on both sides of the ball. 6.

Armando Broja - Often found himself in possession of the ball on Chelsea's right and provided an outlet if not as much threat as he does in the centre. 6.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek - Looked good carrying the ball forwards after replacing Zakaria but perhaps could have made his presence felt more. 5.

Christian Pulisic - Limited time to make an impact.
