Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has seemingly weighed in on the right-back debate between Reece James and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Supporters of both the Londoners and Liverpool have continued to disagree as to who the better player is out of the two English defenders, who are both known for their influence within the final third for their respective sides.
Often criticised by rival supporters for a perceived lack of defensive awareness, Alexander-Arnold has done little so far this season to deflect attention away from his positional discipline after a number of below-par performances for Jurgen Klopp's side. James has continued to be a preferred option for England manager Gareth Southgate, with Kyle Walker also seemingly ahead of Liverpool's local star in the pecking order.

Chelsea fans will, of course, lean towards favouring James when assessing the ability of Alexander-Arnold and it seems the new owner of the London club is also aligned with this view. Engaging with a Twitter post which asked users to like for James or retweet for Liverpool's No.66 to determine who the best right-back is, the American opted for the former to show his support for the 22-year-old.
Despite the competition that exists between the pair, James leapt to the defence of Alexander-Arnold earlier this year by insisting those who criticise the defensive ability of the Liverpool full-back 'don't really know the game'.
"I make mistakes as well. I gave away a penalty against Hungary so we are both still learning our trade," he said. "Liverpool have 95% of the ball and he defends less than I have to. People have a lot of stuff to say and don't really know the game. Trent is a great player."
James will have hopes of being Southgate's go-to option at this year's World Cup despite his respect for Liverpool's local hero and has insisted he will do everything in his power to be starting matches in Qatar.
He said: "I'll try everything I can [to be first choice]. Only my performances will be able to prove what I can bring. In these games and building into next season I'll hopefully be able to show that I'm ready to play every game."
