Chelsea open contract talks with striker amid Thomas Tuchel Kai Havertz frustration vs Tottenham

Chelsea have found the cherry on top to an excellent summer transfer window, with Armando Broja set to pen a new deal at Stamford Bridge. The 20-year-old striker has been heavily linked with an exit from west London following an impressive loan spell at Southampton last season.

football.london understand that Broja, who is valued at around £57million, was looked at closely by Tuchel in pre-season amid the absence of a 'out-and-out number nine'. It's understood that Everton are eager to sign the youngster, with several top-flight European clubs also in the queue.

Broja, who sees his contract at Chelsea expire in 2026 after signing a new long-term deal last summer, featured 38 times for the Saints, directly contributing toward ten goals. The Albania international played a key role in steering Ralph Hasenhuttl's side to safety from relegation.

Despite having featured just twice for the Blues in cameo displays this season, Chelsea have made it clear where the striker's future lies. According to The Athletic, the west Londoners want to improve Broja's current deal and talks are already in progress.

"I don't expect Armando to leave," said Tuchel last month. "We are aware of offers and interest, which tell us there is a lot of potential. We will take this decision together with me, the owners and also the player.

"When he arrived [in the US for pre-season], it was clear he was trying to impress to try and become a Chelsea player as soon as possible after his loan at Southampton. The situation was clear - to make the next step and show his improvement and make an impression, but unfortunately, he injured himself."

As it stands, Broja is Chelsea's only 'out and out' striker this season following the exit of Romelu Lukaku. Kai Havertz and Raheem Sterling have already featured, and will continue to, as a false nine when called upon by Tuchel.

However, variation is critical with form and physical condition taken into account. It also must be said that after Havertz's huge miss against Tottenham, the Albanian has a great chance to earn his stripes.
