Todd Boehly has reportedly made it his "personal mission" to keep Chelsea full-back Reece James out of the clutches of Premier League rivals Manchester City.
The Chelsea owner has dived into work after his consortium purchased the Stamford Bridge outfit in a £4.25bn deal. And keeping hold of England international James appears to be high on his to-do list as the American billionaire looks to tie the player down to a new contract at Stamford Bridge.

Boehly's 'personal mission'

The England international has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge, with Premier LEague rivals Manchester City and Spanish outfit Real Madrid thought to be monitoring his situation. But Boehly has reportedly made it clear to the player that he wants him to remain at Chelsea and is keen to open discussions over a new contract once the current transfer window draws to a close.

Reports in recent weeks have suggested Ronaldo has not been impressed by United's work in the transfer market so far this summer, with the Old Trafford club yet to bring in any new faces while Premier League rivals such as Manchester City and Liverpool have both strengthened. Boehly is keen to bring in at least one marquee signing this summer to mark the beginning of a new era following his takeover of the club and met with Mendes in Portugal last week.
It is unclear whether Chelsea will pursue a transfer for Ronaldo, though, who has one year left on his contract at Old Trafford and has also been linked with a move Bayern Munich.
Werner's stance on Juve swap
Timo Werner has made his feelings clear over the prospect of being included as part of Chelsea's bid for Juventus centre-back Matthijs de Ligt.
The Dutch international has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge as the Blues look to replace Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, whose contracts both expired at the end of last season. The player reportedly has a £128.5m release clause in his Juventus contract, although Chelsea are reportedly ready to offer £39million as well as Werner.
