Chelsea news: Todd Boehly plots Man United transfer hijack as Robert Sanchez decision made

Your Chelsea morning digest on Saturday, April 8.

Boehly plots Man United hijack

Chelsea are reportedly preparing a move to hijack Manchester United's transfer of Benfica superstar Goncalo Ramos. The striker is one of Europe's most-promising attackers after his performances at the World Cup and in Portugal.

This season, the 21-year-old has scored an incredible 25 goals in 37 appearances for Benfica, assisting an additional 10. He has also scored four goals for the Portugal national team since making his debut in November - including a hat-trick at the Qatar World Cup.

According to Portuguese newspaper Record (via Sport Witness), the Blues will send scouts to watch Ramos in action in this evening's Liga NOS clash with FC Porto, with it even the 'possibility' of Boehly attending the fixture to catch a closer glimpse of the prodigy himself.

Lampard receives Hiddink backing

Former Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink has instructed Todd Boehly to make Frank Lampard's return to Stamford Bridge permanent. Lampard replaced Graham Potter after the Englishman was sacked on the back of the 2-0 home loss to Aston Villa.

“Honestly, I would like him to be considered not just as an interim coach,” he told the Telegraph. “But also to be given the confidence to continue with the project next season.

"He knows the club like nobody else and it's important to give continuity to things. Like anyone, Lampard is going to need time. Chelsea have invested a lot of money but now need to adapt to an idea."

Hiddink continued, defending Lampard's first spell in charge in west London. "It was perhaps too soon to take on such a big responsibility," he said. "He had just started his coaching career and now he's had more experience, he's more and better prepared. Let him work! I know him and I think he is the right person."

Sanchez allowed to leave Brighton

Chelsea have received a boost in their pursuit of Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez. The Blues are said to be in for a new goalkeeper this summer and have been linked with a number of individuals.

talkSPORT have suggested that Sanchez will be allowed to leave Brighton at the end of the season. The goalkeeper first joined the Seagulls in 2013 and has become one of the best-performing shot-stoppers in the Premier League.

The report claims that Brighton will not stand in his way of first-team football at the end of the season. However, it remains to be seen whether the player himself would welcome a move to Stamford Bridge with his current employees on course to qualify for European football.

Chelsea's goalkeeper situation is expected to take another turn this weekend. Frank Lampard signed Mendy during his first spell after a season with Kepa Arrizabalaga and could reinstate the Senegal international as his first-choice at Wolves.
