New Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has admitted that Financial Fair Play rules will "limit ability to acquire players at any price".
The American billionaire completed his £4.25billion purchase of the Stamford Bridge club last month just in time for the summer transfer window. But his latest comments suggest there may not be an open chequebook for Blues boss Thomas Tuchel this summer.
It comes as Tuchel's summer transfer plans have reportedly stumbled into a number of considerable hurdles. And the Blues have been offered the ideal defender as part of Romelu Lukaku's potential move to Inter Milan.

Boehly opens up on transfer strategy
New Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has hinted at how the club will approach the transfer market under his leadership.
The American billionaire completed his consortium-led takeover of the Blues last month and is expected to make funds available for the summer transfer market. But there may not be unlimited funds available, with Boehly saying that Financial Fair Play rules will "limit ability to acquire players at any price" at the SuperReturn International conference in Berlin.
And he's also spoken about the mentality he wants to bring to the club while in charge.
Tuchel hits problem
Thomas Tuchel's summer transfer plans have reportedly hit several problems.
With a new striker potentially in the pipeline, Tuchel is open to Romelu Lukaku returning to Inter Milan. But with the Blues wanting to recoup a large part of the £97.5million they spent on him last summer, Inter prefer a loan move.
And even Chelsea's loan fee demand could be too much for them to afford. Tuchel is a fan of Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski, who may now be allowed to leave the club after they secured the signing of Liverpool's Sadio Mane.
But with the likes of Barcelona, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain also interested in the striker, Tuchel faces missing out. While he could also be beaten to the signings of Gabriel Jesus and Jules Kounde, leaving him with a significant transfer headache.
Chelsea offered ideal defender
Inter Milan could offer Chelsea Dutch full-back Denzel Dumfries as part of the deal to bring Romelu Lukaku back to the San Siro.
According to football.london, Inter value Dumfries at around £40million but could let him go for less if it meant securing Lukaku’s return. And the player swap offer could provide the breakthrough in talks between the two clubs, with reports suggesting Lukaku could now undergo a medical at the Italian side as soon as next week.
