Chelsea news: Todd Boehly drafting in extra help as Graham Potter issues warning

Chelsea will look to continue their recent resurgence as Graham Potter goes in search of a third win on the spin.

Having earned his first Premier League victory in the Blues dugout last weekend, Potter saw his side thump AC Milan 3-0 in midweek. Against the Italian champions, there were signs that some of the old fluency was returning to Chelsea ’s game after a patchy start to the new season.

Managerless Wolves are the visitors to Stamford Bridge this weekend, in a game many expect them to negotiate with ease. But there will be a familiar face in the away side as Diego Costa returns to the capital with his new new side.

Ahead of that reunion, Mirror Football takes a look at the latest batch of Chelsea news:

Vivell voom

The Blues are close to ending their protracted search for a new technical director with former RB Leipzig Christopher Vivell set to be appointed in the role.

Chelsea have been looking for a replacement for Marina Granovskaia after Todd Boehly decided to part company with the highly-regarded director. Boehly has been acting as an interim sporting director and oversaw the £200m-plus spending spree during the most recent window.

But Boehly is now ready to relinquish that role with the appointment of Vivell believed to be just days away. The 25-year-old is set to join the Premier League giants having left Leipzig in controversial fashion, due to contrasting views.

Costa backed for Silva

Graham Potter believes Diego Costa will be very much second best when it comes to the battle of the veterans on Saturday.

The 34-year-old is in line for his Premier League start since his acrimonious Chelsea exit in 2017. Costa signed for Wolves last month with the Black Country outfit desperately scrambling for firepower.

And the combative striker will be going up against Thiago Silva and Potter believes the Brazil international will have enough to see off the Blues icon. “Does Thiago have the experience and temperament to handle Costa? Yes, of course. Every opponent gives you a battle. He has the respect for every opponent and for football.”

Blues get Fofana boost

Chelsea have been handed a huge boost regarding Wesley Fofana's injury worries (Getty Images)

Wesley Fofana looks to have avoided a serious injury after serious concerns were raised regarding the £75million summer signing.

The Frenchman limped off during Chelsea’s win over Milan in midweek and there were fears that he could be out for an extended period of time. Following the full-time whistle he was spotted on crutches, but after being sent for a scan, the prognosis is a much more positive one.

It is suggested that Fofana will be out for a matter of weeks, rather than months - although that could still see him miss a clutch of fixtures. Regardless, it will be a relief for club and player alike, after the former Leicester City defender suffered a long-term injury in his final full season at the King Power Stadium.
