Chelsea have reportedly lodged a 'very strong' transfer bid for Barcelona's Uruguayan centre-back Ronald Araujo.
The defender's future at the Nou Camp has been subject to widespread speculation lately, with Manchester United also said to be ready to swoop for him.
It comes as Thomas Tuchel has been criticised for his approach to handling Romelu Lukaku this season.
And Chelsea have suffered a major blow ahead of the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool on February 27, with Mason Mount now a doubt for the big game.
The Blues midfielder limped off after just 31 minutes of his side's Club World Cup final win against Palmeiras in Abu Dhabi on Saturday, with the England international later seen leaving the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium on crutches.

Mount fears
Mason Mount could miss out on Chelsea's Carabao Cup final after limping off injured during the Club World Cup last week.
The midfielder left the field after just 31 minutes after an opposition player fell on him, and fears have been raised he may have suffered a recurrence of his past ankle problems.
He was later seen leaving the stadium on crutches and could be out for two weeks – making him a doubt for the crunch Carabao Cup tie with Liverpool.
And boss Thomas Tuchel has opened up about the injury following the Club World Cup win.
Tuchel slammed
Thomas Tuchel has been slammed for his approach to handling Romelu Lukaku's situation this season.
The Belgium international arrived back at Stamford Bridge last summer, joining from Inter Milan in a £97.5million deal.
But his return to the club has been far from smooth, with the forward telly Sky Italia he was unhappy at the club in a bombshell interview.
And now BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks has slammed the Blues boss for his "overzealous nonsense" in handling the situation.
'Very strong' bid made
Chelsea have reportedly lodged a 'very strong' bid for Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo to ward off interest from Premier League rivals Manchester United.
The defender has been linked with a move away from the Nou Camp, and with his contract set to expire at the end of next season, he could be set for a big-money move this summer.
With Thomas Tuchel's side facing the prospect of Antonio Rudiger, Cesar Azpilicueta and Andreas Christensen all departing for nothing when their contracts expire at the end of this season, the Blues are expected to move for at least one new defensive signing in the summer.
And it appears Araujo is high on their list of targets.
