Chelsea news: Thomas Tuchel's FA Cup final 'mistake' as Antonio Rudiger shares his regret

Thomas Tuchel's FA Cup final mistake has been highlighted by BBC Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer.

The Blues fell to a penalty shootout defeat to Liverpool at Wembley – for the second time this season. The Blues were left to suffer yet more shoot-out misery, after the 11-10 Carabao Cup final loss to Jurgen Klopp’s men in February as they fell to a 6-5 penalty defeat on Saturday.

And Shearer believes Blues coach Tuchel should have played Timo Werner. It comes as Antonio Rudiger has admitted he "wanted to have a different ending" to his career at Chelsea.

While Sam Kerr’s extra-time winner clinched a hard-fought 3-2 win over Manchester City in the Women’s FA Cup final.

Here are Mirror Football's latest Chelsea headlines.

Tuchel's 'mistake'

Alan Shearer says Timo Werner should have played during Chelsea's FA Cup final defeat to Liverpool.

The Blues fell to a disappointing penalty shootout loss after the FA Cup final at Wembley finished 0-0 – the same score as the Carabao Cup final between the same two sides in March. This time the shootout was a bit short, with the scores finishing 6-5 to Liverpool, but Shearer thinks the Blues might have won it before it got to penalties had Werner been on the pitch.

The BBC pundit said he thinks it "would have been a huge threat for him to be running behind" Liverpool's defence and that he was "surprised" the German attacker did not play.

Rudiger's regret

Antonio Rudiger admitted he is "frustrated" that he didn't get to end his Chelsea career by winning the FA Cup.

The German centre-back is out of contract in the summer and is set to join Spanish giants Real Madrid when his deal in west London comes to an end. Rudiger said that he "wanted to have a different ending" with the Stamford Bridge outfit following the FA Cup final defeat, but that Chelsea will "always be special" to him and his family.

Women’s FA Cup win

Sam Kerr’s double helped Chelsea Women claim their second trophy in a week as they lifted the Women’s FA Cup trophy.

The Blues twice took the lead during the opening 90 minutes, but were pegged back on both occasions. Kerr gave the Blues the lead as she nodded in at the far post before City equalised through Lauren Hemp just before the break. Chelsea retook the lead with a well-struck effort from distance from Erin Cuthbert in the second half, only for Hayley Raso to equalise in the 89th minute and take the contest to extra time.

But it was Kerr who proved the matchwinner in extra time as she drove forward and saw her shot take a massive deflection off Alex Greenwood and finding the back of the net.
