Chelsea news: Roman Abramovich investment branded 'ridiculous' as takeover verdict is delivered

Your Chelsea morning digest on Thursday, March 3.

Thiago Silva branded 'ridiculous'

As rumours continue to swirl around the future of Roman Abramovich, one of his best investments has once again been lauded.

Thiago Silva was signed during Frank Lampard's reign on a free transfer and has been one of the best defenders in the top-flight since, with Rio Ferdinand the latest to pile on the praise after the Carabao Cup final.

"I watched that game and thought it was a really good level. There was a lot of quality on show and some great defending," Ferdinand said on the FIVE YouTube channel.

"Thiago Silva, what he’s doing at 37-years-old is ridiculous. Cool and composed, calm under pressure, he’s talking to teammates, talking them through the game. Shout-out to Thiago Silva."

Alan Shearer delivers takeover verdict

Roman Abramovich's decision to put Chelsea up for sale has been branded as "huge" by Alan Shearer.

Speaking during the BBC's coverage of their clash with Luton, he said: "Huge moment for Chelsea Football Club.

"He has brought massive success over his 20 years, but it is not as simple as selling the football club as we know it can take months, even years to sell a football club.

"But I still think, more importantly, there is still no condemnation from Roman or the club about what is happening in Ukraine."

Thomas Tuchel reveals when he heard of Abramovich decision

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that he only heard of Abramovich's decision to put the club up for sale 'very close' to kick-off.

"Maybe I heard it a little bit earlier than you but still it was very close to kick-off," Tuchel told the BBC after beating Luton 3-2 in the FA Cup.

"But we heard the rumours throughout the day and on TV. When we have team meetings and we eat together, the guys talk about it, everybody talks about it.

"It is big news. Let's wait and see and hope for the best and see what the day brings. I think every decision he [Abramovich] takes is the right decision. It's his choice, it's his club. That's not on me to comment."
