Chelsea news: Injury fears confirmed as Mikel Arteta offers Graham Potter support

Graham Potter is under mounting pressure as Chelsea manager and faces make or break matches to save his job.

The Blues suffered a dismal 2-0 defeat at the hands of London rivals Tottenham on Sunday, meaning it's now one win in 11 games since the turn of the year for Potter. Scoring just one goal in 10 hours of football, Todd Boehly and the club hierarchy are preparing to wield the axe if the Blues don't come through games against Leeds and Borussia Dortmund looking any brighter.

With supporters growing understandably impatient with Chelsea's dire run of form, more than 45,000 signatures have been attributed to a petition calling for Potter to be sacked. The ex-Brighton boss is pleading for more time and has the moral support of some of his rivals, but the clock is ticking.

Here's a round-up of the latest news from Stamford Bridge.

Arteta sends message to struggling Potter

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta empathises with Potter amid the increasing pressure he's under at Stamford Bridge. Potter claims to have been sent death threats during his miserable run in charge, and Arteta is fully supportive of his rival when it comes to the challenges of managing an elite club.

"Absolutely, we are colleagues and we all know the pressure and the demands and the uncertainty that this industry has," the Arsenal boss declared. "At the end of the day, the ball has to go into that net, and there are many factors that can prevent that that are out of your control, so I fully empathise because you suffer and you know how it is when you are going through those moments."

Silva to miss crucial fixtures

Thiago Silva is set to miss Graham Potter's make or break matches as Chelsea manager. A knee injury sustained in Sunday's defeat away to Spurs sees the Brazilian defender, 38, ruled out of the clashes with Leeds United and Borussia Dortmund.

A club statement issued on Tuesday morning read: "Having sustained a knee injury during the first half of Sunday's match against Tottenham Hotspur, Thiago underwent further assessment and a scan on his return to the training centre on Monday.

"Scan results from those assessments have confirmed damage to Thiago's knee ligaments and he will now work closely with the club's medical department during his rehabilitation to return to action as soon as possible."

Mount could lead transfer exodus

Mason Mount could lead an exodus at Chelsea this summer as the club's troubles rack up. The Blues star and team-mate Ruben Loftus-Cheek, both academy products, are each preparing to enter the final year of their respective contracts at the end of this season.

Midfielder Connor Gallagher, 23, could also be a target for Premier League rivals, as Chelsea are in need of balancing the books during the summer transfer window. With a top-four finish and Champions League football looking unlikely to be on show at Stamford Bridge next term, the Blues must offload players in order to meet Financial Fair Play regulations.
