Chelsea news: Kylian Mbappe's transfer stance revealed as Reece James picks up knock vs AC Milan

Your Chelsea morning digest on Wednesday, October 12.

Kylian Mbappe hope

Chelsea have been given hope that they could sign Kylian Mbappe as the Paris Saint-Germain star is reportedly coming to an end of his time in France amid a complete breakdown with the club.

The 23-year-old joined PSG in 2018 permanently after spending one season on loan from Monaco, moving for £162m, but may leave a lot sooner than his 2025 expiry on his contract suggests. According to Spanish publication Marca, Mbappe wishes to leave PSG as early as January.

It had previously been expected that Mbappe would join Real Madrid, with Florentino Perez desperate to make him part of their developing squad alongside young stars Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga, Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo, but Marca state that Los Blancos is not an option for Mbappe.

Brazilian wonderkid eyed

Chelsea are one of the clubs interested in signing Robert Renan, a 19-year-old centre-back from Corinthians, according to GOAL Brazil.

The talented defender was a target for Wolves over the summer, and now he has made a handful of senior appearances, the reported release clause is around £45m. With Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund also interested, Renan could also offer an early insight into how Boehly wants to run widespread recruitment into South America.

The owner has looked to implement a multi-club system to have control over player development and South America is a big part of that desire. Renan himself could prove to be the start of that if Chelsea were to make a move for the defender.

James picks up knock

Reece James was replaced by Ruben Loftus-Cheek with half an hour to play in Chelsea's Champions League group stage clash with AC Milan. The defender fell to the ground clutching his knee following a collision with Theo Hernandez a few moments earlier.

He tried to soldier on and fight through the visible pain of said knock. But after Rafael Leao waltzed past him to curve open the Blues' backline, he had ran his race.

This comes as a major blow for James, who has his eyes set on a place in Gareth Southgate's starting XI ahead of the Qatar World Cup. As it stands, the Three Lions are set to be without Kyle Walker, who has recently undergone surgery, while Trent Alexander-Arnold picked up a knock to his ankle in Liverpool's 3-2 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday.

The severity of James' suspected knee injury is currently unknown. The knock follows Wesley Fofana's injury which was picked up in the reverse fixture with AC Milan.
