Chelsea news: Jurgen Klopp 'happy' to see Blues' struggles amid Mauricio Pochettino announcement

Your morning Chelsea digest on Monday, May 1.

Chelsea can use forgotten duo in Inter Milan transfer swoop

Brentford's David Raya, Brighton's Robert Sanchez and Inter Milan star Andre Onana have all been linked with transfers to the Blues ahead of next season.

Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport claims a meeting was held between Chelsea and Inter chiefs in Milan on Wednesday, with the two clubs discussing a deal that would see Onana move to west London. The Serie A outfit, who signed Onana on a free transfer from Ajax last summer, value the Cameroonian goalkeeper at £35.3million (€40million).

However, the Blues are said to be looking at involving two fringe players in a swap deal that would bring Onana to Stamford Bridge. Trevoh Chalobah and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are on the fringes of the senior squad and could be used in a swap deal for the Cameroon international if Inter Milan agree to that proposal.

The report claims the Blues have already offered Kepa to Inter but have been met with a firm no, but Inter are interested in a couple of other Chelsea players. Chalobah was wanted by the Italians last summer and the club remain big admirers of the versatile defender, whilst Inter are said to have been interested in Loftus-Cheek in the past.

Todd Boehly given Mauricio Pochettino announcement timeline as Chelsea manager contract offer

Chelsea are coming towards the end of their manager search with Mauricio Pochettino emerging as the leading candidate to take over at Stamford Bridge. Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou and Burnley head coach Vincent Kompany were among the candidates being considered by the Blues - but the Argentine is now leading the race to become Graham Potter's permanent successor.

The Blues have now been given a timeline regarding Pochettino's potential announcement as the new manager at Stamford Bridge. It is expected that there will be no announcement ahead of Chelsea's crucial Premier League fixture against Arsenal on Tuesday night - although some reports have suggested the former Spurs boss could be at the Emirates Stadium for the game.

Whilst an announcement is unlikely to come before Tuesday, that is not to say that contract terms could not be discussed behind the scenes. Frank Lampard will hope he can pick up his first win after returning to Chelsea as caretaker boss on Tuesday, but a permanent replacement for Potter seems to be getting closer to being announced.

The Blues find themselves 10 points clear of the relegation zone in 12th position heading into their crucial fixture against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night.

Liverpool have endured their own difficulties this term but Klopp has revealed that he is 'a little bit happy' to see that Chelsea are struggling as well - despite spending over £600million on new signings.

The German told Sky Sports : "I feel a little bit for Chelsea to be honest, because it’s not going well, I think they’re a top, top team, but on the other side it's good to see that you cannot just bring top players together and think it works out."
