Chelsea news: Harry Kane emerges as Blues target while Todd Boehly re-hires sacked staff member

Chelsea have endured an absolutely torrid season by their standards and are not yet even mathematically safe from Premier League relegation ahead of six difficult fixtures.

The Blues still have to make trips to Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United as well as home games against an in-form Bournemouth side, a Nottingham Forest team fighting tooth and nail for survival and a Newcastle outfit chasing Champions League qualification.

It has been anything but a fairytale reunion for Frank Lampard since he returned to the club on an interim basis earlier this month following Graham Potter's dismissal. The Chelsea legend is yet to pick up a win as Blues boss and has now overseen five straight defeats across all competitions, including elimination from the Champions League at the hands of Real Madrid.

With that in mind, Mirror Football has analysed three of the main talking points centred around Chelsea on Saturday, April 29.

Chelsea enter the race for Kane

The imminent appointment of Mauricio Pochettino has added a new layer to the race for Harry Kane's signature.

Manchester United looked nailed on to be the side that lured the England captain away from Tottenham in the summer, but Kane holds Pochettino in such high regard a move to Stamford Bridge could now be on the cards.

As per the Daily Mail, ex-Tottenham manager Pochettino is still a huge admirer of Kane and could table an offer if given the budget by Chelsea.

Under the guidance of his former Spurs coach, who was at the helm from 2014 to 2019, Kane established himself as one of Europe's best strikers.

Boehly re-hires physio after players' plea

Owner Todd Boehly has re-hired popular physio Jose Calvarro after members of Lampard's playing squad made clear they were keen for his return.

Calvarro departed West London last September after more than six years of working at the club as part of Boehly's overhaul.

Bizarrely, those at the top of the Chelsea hierarchy have already U-turned on their decision after the Spanish medic went to join Italian Serie B side Como.

According to the Evening Standard, a number of Chelsea players asked the club to bring Calvarro back as they felt his exit was a key factor behind the Blues' injury crisis which plagued so much of Potter's reign.

Arsenal consider repeating Jorginho with Kante plan

N'Golo Kante has emerged as a potential transfer target for Arsenal (Getty Images)

The Gunners are thought to be mulling over the idea of signing Blues star N'Golo Kante, much like they did former Chelsea ace Jorginho.

Kante, who was part of the last Chelsea side to win the title in 2017, is still performing at an impressive level but TodoFichajes reports that a two-year deal has been signed that will take the World Cup winner to the Emirates.

With Mikel Arteta's side returning to the Champions League next term while Chelsea are expected to miss out on European football of any kind, there's every chance Kante is tempted.
