Chelsea news: Graham Potter ruthlessly sacked as Julian Nagelsmann stance emerges

Graham Potter has finally paid the price for his struggles at Chelsea, with the Blues ruthlessly sacking the Englishman on Sunday evening.

The Blues dropped into the bottom half of the Premier League table as they were beaten 2-0 at home to Aston Villa on Saturday night. That was one defeat too many for owner Todd Boehly to handle, with the American sacking Potter and appointing Bruno Saltor as interim manager.

Critics have been quick to question some of Potter's tactics, but he will not get the chance to answer them, with Boehly's patience finally running out. Julian Nagelsmann has also been linked with the job after his Bayern Munich exit.

Here's a look at all the latest headlines from Stamford Bridge.

Potter sacked by Blues

Graham Potter has been sacked by Chelsea, after seeing the Blues drop into the bottom half of the Premier League table.

Potter was appointed at Stamford Bridge after sacking Champions League winning boss Thomas Tuchel in September. He left Premier League rivals Brighton and Hove Albion to take the job but managed just 12 wins from over 30 games in charge.

A club statement read: "Chelsea FC has announced that Graham Potter has departed the club. Graham has agreed to collaborate with the Club to facilitate a smooth transition. Chelsea would like to thank Graham for all his efforts and contribution and wish him well for the future."

Nagelsmann stance on Chelsea job

Julian Nagelsmann is not interested in succeeding Graham Potter at Chelsea this season.

Nagelsmann is one of Europe's most promising managers, despite being sacked by Bayern Munich last month. The former RB Leipzig boss is currently a free agent following his Bavarian exit but does not want to take the Chelsea job at the moment in time.

As reported by Sky in Germany, Nagelsmann is admired by Chelsea's hierarchy - who are now searching for Potter's replacement. Yet Nagelsmann does not want to make an immediate return to management and will wait until the summer to decide his future.

Mykhaylo Mudryk missed a golden chance against Villa at Stamford Bridge (Clive Rose/Getty Images)

Concerning Mudryk observation

Mykhaylo Mudryk is still struggling to find his feet at Chelsea and club legend Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink perhaps gave the most damning indictment after the £87million's signing sitter against Aston Villa.

Mudryk, 22, could've equalised in the first half, but missed a golden opportunity to level the scores with what would've been his long-awaited first goal in Chelsea colours. Hasselbaink suggested that Mudryk's miss could be put down to lacking experience when it comes to one-on-one goalscoring opportunities, a concerning claim given how much the Blues paid for him in the January transfer window.

"He needs to square it to Havertz," Hasselbaink affirmed on Sky Sports. "If he squares it, it is 100 per cent a goal. Chelsea have created here again, you can see he is not used to getting these kind of chances. He needs to take an extra touch and then take his time because he had so much time."
