Chelsea news: Graham Potter accused of 'madness' as Jose Mourinho pointer sent to boss

Although Chelsea were beaten by Borussia Dortmund in midweek, there were some green shoots for the Blues to take into their fixture against Southampton on Saturday.

Dortmund ran out 1-0 winners in the first leg of the Champions League last-16 tie, placing even more pressure on beleaguered Graham Potter's shoulders. Nonetheless, it was an improved performance for Chelsea, who return to Premier League action at home to the Saints in a 3pm kick-off.

The main talking points around the west Londoners at the end of the week centred on Potter's style of management, which is vastly different to that of Jose Mourinho, one of the greatest bosses in the club's history. An example of the latter's explosive tendencies has been recalled by a former Chelsea player, while Potter has also been urged to bring Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang back to the fold.

Potter sent management advice

Graham Potter has been told he must be more like Jose Mourinho in order to get his Chelsea squad firing on all cylinders.

Mourinho won three Premier League titles and numerous domestic cups across his two stints in the Stamford Bridge hot seat, during which he conveyed a braggadocios aura. Potter, in contrast, is a calm, measured manager, which former Chelsea defender Glen Johnson suspects could be holding him back.

The Englishman has been advised that he "may have to light off a firework" to finally get his players operating at the required level.

Aubameyang plea issued

Graham Potter has been urged to reassess his stance on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang by Daily Mirror assistant editor Darren Lewis.

Aubameyang, 33, has been left out of the Chelsea squad for their last two Premier League fixtures, as well as their Champions League squad for the knockout stage. That is despite the Blues severely struggling in front of goal since Potter took over.

After failing to find the back of the net against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday, the under-pressure Chelsea manager has been told in no uncertain terms that he needs to give the Gabonese striker a chance.

Mourinho brutality recalled

Chelsea hero John Obi Mikel has recounted one half-time team talk from Jose Mourinho during which he tore into Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian winger had only joined the Blues from Basel a matter of months earlier but a string of poor performances left him in the spotlight. During an attritional fixture against Norwich in May 2014, Mourinho lost his patience with Salah and "ripped into him" in front of his teammates, Mikel recalled.

The Portuguese manager followed this up by substituting him at half-time, and Salah would only make a handful more appearances for the Blues before departing for Serie A.
