Lampard's promise
Frank Lampard has already analysed where he went wrong during his first stint in charge at Chelsea. The new interim manager was sacked in January 2021 after a slide down the table.
His second season has some similarities with Graham Potter's brief spell. After a good start Chelsea massively dropped off and Lampard eventually found himself with too much to do.
Speaking on the High Performance podcast in September, Lampard said: "I didn't see that and so I probably became a little bit on top of myself and then in the second year certainly one of the biggest regrets I have is the last period at Chelsea where we came into. Out of nowhere we were second in the league and came into a short-run of defeats to leave us ninth, the way it went in the league and with four defeats, bang, you're gone."

Mudryk meeting
Chelsea have been told that Mykhailo Mudryk will repay his large transfer fee despite a slow start to life in England. The Ukrainian is still waiting for his first goal at the club having signed for £62million.
However, Shakhtar Donetsk chief Serhiy Palkin isn't worried. He sent a message to the Blues, saying: "A week ago in England, I met Mykhailo Mudryk and he is very happy. He likes everything that is going on [there], he wants to work hard, he wants to show the best.
"I said from the beginning, I spoke to the owners of Chelsea, and I told them you’ve got a real diamond but you should be very, very patient. Give this guy time and he will show you what he can bring to the club."

Kante update
Kante was omitted from the travelling Chelsea squad to face Wolves over the weekend and, despite fears of an injury, the midfielder was rested as a precaution. The France international has only recently returned from a hamstring issue which he picked up in August.
The 32-year-old enjoyed a brief cameo off the bench against Aston Villa before leading Chelsea out against Liverpool with the captain's armband. After missing the clash at Molineux, Lampard is hopeful that Kante will be ready and raring to go in the Spanish capital as the Blues look to return to winning ways.
"I can't speak about the backroom, for some reason other than what you saw," the 44-year-old said. "You can write what you saw. N'Golo will be fine as it stands now. Managing him to be fit for the game. Not an issue."
