Chelsea news: Enzo Fernandez offers show of support as Graham Potter details family threats

Chelsea are looking to return to winning ways when they take on Champions League rivals Tottenham on Sunday afternoon.

The Blues have struggled for form in recent months, losing last time out against Premier League strugglers Southampton, which has led to increased pressure on Graham Potter. The former Brighton boss only arrived earlier this season but has been unable to have an immediate impact.

That has seen the manager questioned whilst he's also opened up on the personal impacts of the negative results. Britain's most expensive player, Enzo Fernandez, has backed Potter however and is adamant, given time, he and the squad in west London can turn things around.

Here's the latest news coming out of Stamford Bridge.

Potter opens up on death threats

Potter has received death threats aimed towards his children following a poor run of form at Chelsea.

The Blues have won just two of their past 15 games in all competitions. They sit 10th in the Premier League table, 11 points adrift of the top four, ahead of their crucial clash with Tottenham on Sunday afternoon.

Potter has been under mounting pressure, with his side booed off the pitch by their own fans following a dire 1-0 defeat by bottom side Southampton last weekend. The former Brighton boss retains the support of the Chelsea hierarchy, but he says the past few weeks have been particularly tough.

Fernandez's show of confidence

Potter is the right man to turn things around at Chelsea – he just needs patience from the club’s fans, according to Enzo Fernandez.

Fernandez joined Chelsea in a Premier League record £105million transfer from Benfica on January transfer deadline day. The 22-year-old arrived at Stamford Bridge during a difficult period for the club and is yet to taste victory in his four games so far.

“I would encourage the fans to be patient,” he told The Telegraph in Spanish through a translator “We have got a lot of new faces here and it is a restructuring of the club and the playing staff. Trust us.”

Super League's true ambitions

Disgraced former Juventus chairman Andrea Agnelli has admitted that his European Super League plan is being driven by a desire to bring down the Premier League.

Agnelli, 47, who is being investigated by Italian police over a financial scandal that saw him banned from football for two years, was one of the powerbrokers of the original ESL initiative.

Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham all signed up for the new competition in 2021 before pulling out after a furious backlash from fans. Juventus, Real Madrid and Barcelona continue to support the initiative. And Agnelli has admitted: “Only the Premier League is growing and growing - and is already a glorified Super League."
