Chelsea news: Antonio Rudiger opens up on exit as Thomas Tuchel reveals coaching ambition

Chelsea will be hoping to sign off a frustrating season in style on Sunday, when they host Watford at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have ultimately come up just short in two finals against Liverpool, were unable to defend their Champions League title after a dramatic loss to Real Madrid and faded in the Premier League title race after an encouraging start.

Factor in the ongoing off-field issues regarding ownership and the campaign will be one most at the club will be pleased to see the back of.

However, the game against Watford will provide the chance to finish with a flourish and for fans to say farewell to some players who will be on the move in the summer.

Rudiger opens up on exit

Antonio Rudiger will play his final game for Chelsea on Sunday and he's spoken about the reasons why he has decided to move on.

The German international has developed into one of the best defenders in the Premier League under Tuchel, but the Blues were unable to secure a contract extension for him.

Rudiger has claimed that after some initial negotiations Chelsea went silent, prompting him into considering his options elsewhere.

"Unfortunately, my contract negotiations had already started to get difficult last fall," he said. "Business is business, but when you don't hear any news from the club from August to January, the situation becomes complicated. After the first offer, there was a long gap of just nothing."

Tuchel reveals Hodgson ambition

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has said he would love to emulate Roy Hodgson and carry on managing until he is 74

The Watford boss is set to walk away from football after Sunday's game, having been appointed by the Hornets mid-season. However, the former England head coach was unable to prevent their slide and their relegation has long been confirmed.

The results have not lessened Tuchel's admiration for the veteran coach though.

"Who knows? How old is he? 74? He does not look that old and I am happy to meet him again," he said.

"We met once before we played against each other here in London to discuss performance. I was coach of Dortmund at the time and it was very impressive because he was super friendly and a gentleman and very open in sharing his point of view and opinions."

WWE star spotted at Stamford Bridge

Wrestling legend John Cena was snapped in the executive box at Stamford Bridge on Thursday, alongside Chelsea’s incoming new owner Todd Boehly.

Cena is one of the most decorated WWE figures in history, although recently he has taken a step away from the ring to focus on his acting career.

Boehly's purchase of Chelsea is expected to go through soon, with the LA Dodgers owner buying the club from Roman Abramovich. The 46-year-old has been a regular at Blues games since the offer was accepted.
