Chelsea return to domestic duty on Wednesday evening by hosting Liverpool’s re-arranged Women’s Super League clash from January's abandonment.
It is the Blues’ first league tie in a month. In early April they travelled to Aston Villa for a 3-0 win away from home. Since then they have booked their place in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup final to face Manchester United and fought Barcelona tooth-and-nail in the Champions League semi-finals in a two-legged affair that saw them lose 2-1 on aggregate at the Nou Camp just last week.
But, still, in contention for the double, Chelsea welcome Liverpool back to Kingsmeadow after the initial tie was abandoned due to a frozen pitch minutes after kick-off. It was a chaotic morning but ended with fan amusement when boss Emma Hayes promised free hotdogs to the returning, loyal fans, a promise she has kept.
The Hotdogs will be limited to one per ticket holder and only available before kick-off in what looks to be a dramatic fixture. Liverpool have got the better of the Blues already this campaign in the season opener - the Red’s first game back in top-flight football.
Chelsea avenged that loss with a 3-2 win in the FA Cup fourth round in Sam Kerr hat-trick style.
Liverpool come into the game after suffering a 4-0 loss to a side fighting for their lives in the top tier, Leicester City. It was a hectic performance, riddled with disjointed play and lack of desire which Batt Beard will be sure to want to rectify as his side sit seventh in the WSL.
Chelsea vs Liverpool will kick off at 19:15 at Kingsmeadow Stadium Wednesday, May 3, available to watch via the BBC.
