Chelsea manager Graham Potter provides Thiago Silva and Mateo Kovacic injury update after Tottenham defeat

Graham Potter hopes Thiago Silva is not seriously injured after the Chelsea defender was forced off in Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at Tottenham.

The 38-year-old Brazilian appeared to hurt his left knee when he tackled Harry Kane in the first half and had to be substituted.

Wesley Fofana came on for Silva, who has been in brilliant form for Chelsea.

Speaking after another disappointing loss, Potter said: “I’m not sure. Hopefully it’s not too serious but I haven’t spoken to the doctor enough to have a diagnosis for you.”

Chelsea have a 32-man squad after spending over £500million on 17 new players this season.

Marc Cucurella, Mateo Kovacic, David Datro Fofana, Carney Chukwumeka and Trevoh Chalobah were all left out of the squad - with Cesar Azpilicueta, Armando Broja, Edouard Mendy, N’Golo Kante and Christian Pulisic out injured.

Potter confirmed that only Kovacic missed the Spurs game through illness.

“Mateo was ill,” he said. “The rest were unfortunate to be out of the squad.”
