Chelsea make major demand in preparation for ace's return and Callum Hudson-Odoi excites

The end of the transfer window saw Chelsea add to their loan arm ranks with a spate of players leaving Cobham to ply their trade around the UK and Europe. The Blues have 22 players gaining their experience elsewhere, allowing Chelsea to have an impact on plenty of matches.

Stars as high profile as Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ethan Ampadu headed out in the final days whilst a number of exciting prospects including Harvey Vale and Jayden Wareham left the development squad for the first time to go and experience senior football for a full season.

More recent additions may not have yet played their first minutes for their new clubs but the Blues already have a number of players embedded in squads and making an impression. football.london takes a look at how the loan army got on over the last seven days.

Prince Adegoke - The 18-year-old was not involved for Welling United this week and is still yet to make his senior debut.

Nathan Baxter - The goalkeeper was once again on the bench as Hull City lost 2-0 to Sheffield United.

Lucas Bergstrom - Could not stop his Peterborough United side from falling to Portsmouth 2-1.

Gabriel Slonina - Slonina kept two clean sheets as Chicago Fire recorded two draws in the MLS against New England and Columbus.

Ethan Wady - Had to settle for a place on the bench.

Jamie Cumming - Could not prevent MK Dons from losing 1-0 to Coventry.

Henry Lawrence - Lined up at wing-back and played 75 minutes of Exeter City's defeat.

Malang Sarr - Played in the heart of the defence for Monaco against Nice and kept a clean sheet before returning to the bench for the Champions League match against Crvena Zvezda.

Levi Colwill - The young Chelsea defender was on the bench for Brighton's win over Leicester City before seeing coach Graham Potter depart the club to head to Chelsea. The 19-year-old has acknowledged the challenge he faces on the south coast, however.

"There are better players around," he said. "Everyone in the team is such a good player. I’ve got to get better and level up. It’s a big jump, being with them every day and training with them. The standards are higher, you can’t let them drop."

Ethan Ampadu - The Welshman has yet to feature for Spezia following his deadline day move. However, how he will be used has already been revealed.

“He [will play] on the right of [the back three],” Spezia manager Luca Gotti said about Ampadu’s planned role at Spezia, via Tuttomercatoweb.

“He is not [very tall], but has a strong physicality and the willingness to fight for the ball. Because of these characteristics, he was used as a wild card [at his previous loan club Venezia]. They would put him on the pitch, then choose the other 10 men at Venezia.

“However, Chelsea recommended me to use him [as a centre-back] and the discussions will continue. They think he will return to Chelsea as a centre-back.”

Sam McClelland - The defender was substituted in the final minute of a 3-1 loss to Northampton Town.

Baba Rahman - Came off the bench following his return to Reading to take part in a 2-1 win.

Dujon Sterling - Was not in Stoke's squad after completing his move on deadline day.

Ian Maatsen - Played 64 minutes in Burnley's draw with West Brom

Tino Anjorin - The Blues midfielder featured for 73 minutes in Huddersfield's 2-0 loss to Blackpool.

Tiemoue Bakayoko - An unused sub in AC Milan's 3-2 win over rivals Inter

Joe Haigh - joined Derby's under-21 side and has yet to feature having joined on the final day of the window.

Xavier Simons - The young central midfielder was not in Hull's matchday squad.

Harvey Vale - Like his teammate, was not involved in Hull City's matchday squad. The youngster has spoken of his decision to head out on loan, however.

Vales said: "It was always going to be a tough decision (to leave Chelsea on loan), but I felt it was best for my career at the time. I saw Nathan (Baxter) on Deadline Day. He had a chat with me and told me how much he's enjoyed it (at Hull City).

"It's a very tough league. I feel like anyone can beat anyone, and that's why I love it. I'm focused on this season with this being my first loan (away from Chelsea). I'm focused on learning from all of the other senior players and the gaffer.

"I felt like I had last season with the Under-23s. I feel like once you've done that, then it's time to get into the professional men's game. I felt it was the next step for me to make. Everyone knows how hard it is to thrive in the Championship, and that's the goal."

Callum Hudson-Odoi - The winner wasted little time in making an impact when he came off the bench for his debut in a loss. The youngster had just half an hour but took just moments to provide his first assist for Bayer Leverkusen.

Hudson-Odoi then started the German side's defeat to Club Brugges in the Champions League.

Romelu Lukaku - The Belgian striker missed games against Milan and Bayern Munich due to injury.

Bryan Fiabema - Having returned to the club from Rosenborg, the young forward went on loan to Forest Green and made a substitute appearance in defeat to Shrewsbury. Came off the bench against Accrington Stanley on Tuesday and provided an assist to help his side win 2-1.

Jayden Wareham - Was an unused sub in a 2-0 win, having joined Leyton Orient on deadline day.
